I know this is a meme, but for the record math is one of the things LLMs are famously worst at
Yesterday I literally had to count 14 thousand pounds of fire extinguishers (as in count each extinguisher in a bunch of crates), one of my coworkers came over and said “Why don’t you just use AI to count them.” They then pulled out their phone, took a picture, asked AI to count them, and was off buy almost 60% on the first crate. Then went “oh, well that’s just one example,”
They then tried 4 more times, being between 75% and 50% off each time. They then went “Oh, well, ummm, nevermind.” and wandered off again.
(I had to count the extinguishers to make a Bill of Lading for them for shipping them out, you need an accurate count otherwise it will be held by the shipping company until you provide a correct BoL with the correct count due to legal reasons. I couldn’t just weigh them and divide the total wieght by the weight of a single extinguisher as they were a bunch of different sizes mixed together. NGL it was the easiest money I’ve ever made at the at job.)
$10 says they still think AI is great at counting things.
Can confirm; I teach statistics and allow take home exams. I don’t even really need guardrails on the math-- if you cheat via LLM, your answer is almost always hilariously wrong.
I’ve not used gpt for quite a while, but can’t you ask to python script the evaluation?
For simple math that could work, and as long as the question is close enough to an exact match with plenary of published examples to copy.
A good rule of thumb is that the script is will come up with it is about as likely to be correct as blindly taking the highest voted answer to the most similar question on Stack Overflow.
If the question is simple and common, the odds are quite good. If the question is nuanced or rare, the odds is a correct result drop off aggressively.
I just fuckthe dead on camera and make two-three figures easy. Get with the fucking times, bro. Just let your sister die out autoaphasia with a mild case of head trauma from seven points of impact which likely came from the transportation of the victim, I mean, patient, and you got an easy route to make your beer and weed money back each night, if you got a secure internet connection.
I shit and shower at work, not simultaneously though
Tap for spoiler
most of the time
Gotta stomp those spicy nuggets away. Then wash your shit-caked feet.
Poop at work, get paid while pooping and use free tp.
Their tp is all scratchy and thin though…
Fold it 35 times
And now you have 35 papercuts and shit on your hand
Its extra fucked because the sheer amount of money ppl at the top have now, like the gap is getting bigger and bigger, why is everyone still broke, how do they benefit from ppl not buying things, like my walmart is full of expired sht all the time now, way less traffix
Two ply 70¢ / (330/2) = 0.42 ¢
Three ply 120¢ / 300 = 0.4 ¢
Basically the same.
You meant 3 not one but I get you.
You’d think we would buy a bidet
Corrected thanks.
A bidet, you should buy a bidet.
And use a calculator ffs it comes free with whatever device you’re using to ask a chatbot.
People have to know how to create the math problem then. Schools are really falling down here
How do I type the prompt on the calculator?? I can only type numbers???
Heehee you can type words, like
8008135
:D
😏
Skill issue. People genuinly don’tknow how to use their phone properly
You can also get a travel bidet, if you can’t permanently install one, or just want to try it out. It’s basically just a squeeze bottle with a nozzle…
I have wondered what the math of a bidet is. Decent ones cost a few hundred bucks. When does the TP saving win out? How long do bidets last?
The feeling of a freshly-washed anus is priceless
Honestly bidets are super fancy but you could just go with a “bum gun.” Little gentle water sprayer you attach to your toilet line and voila. Got mine for like $20-$30 or something.
Quite incredible. So much that I’m miffed this isn’t a standard expected thing on toilets.
There are cheap ones that just connect to the water line between your toilet and the tank and they’re like 20 bucks and they’ll last you a couple years.
It takes a little getting used to the cold water spray, but I mean if you’re that desperate that you’re calculating the 30 cent difference per roll, then it might be worth the investment.
I’ve had mine since 2020 and it cost like $40.
Zero frills. Still $40 apparently.
Personally I started using like. 75% less TP once I got a bidet. Combined with spending $30 on the bidet itself, that’s easy savings.
You can get a cheap one for like $25-50 and install it yourself (pretty easy, not actual plumbing, just screwing and unscrewing a few things) and they’re fine. The more expensive ones have heated water, but you don’t need that. I eventually sprang for a “nicer” one, but now I feel that was unnecessary. Maybe I’m a freak, but I prefer the cold water anyway.
Used bottle with water.
I just got into a little spat with my friends fiance because she intellectually offloads with AI.
I stand by it.
The number of people I know who now ask AI instead of web searching is… very upsetting.
Doesn’t help that web search is shit nowadays
That might be intentional and also coz of the shitty ai blog/info sites
In the case of Google it is very much intentional, and documented. Good search means fewer search attempts and that means fewer displayed ads.
Yesterday I googled: Hardware store “City Name”. It only returned stores from a different city. So I googled: Hardware store “City Name City Name City Name” and it returned a single one for every result
If you search Google just serves you their AI shit. The other day their AI told me the word “rainy” has 4 letters.
It’s does have 4 letters. It has 5 letters too.
It does. It also has 5 letters but 4 is technically correct
Google search has got so bad in the last couple of years that I actually don’t blame people for using AI for this.
the number of people who are web searching are still majorly just consuming google’s AI and thats… more upsetting
Cringe and slop brained
Valid question tho
This actually isn’t too hard to solve. Double the value of each option by removing the folding requirement from the 2-ply and halving the price of the 3-ply to get an even comparison of 2-ply (330 sheets for $0.70) and 3-ply (300 sheets for $0.60), then recognize that it’s not worth adding 1/6 the price for 1/10th the sheets, to see that the 3-ply option is better.
By the first sentence, you’ve already done more problem solving than an LLM-brained person.
Not folding 3-ply is asking for added expenses in the form of water and soap though… Push right through em
It hurts my brain to do it that way.
300 sheets for 1.2 is a nice division by .6: 500 sheets for $2. So now all we gotta do is multiply by .7 to get 350 sheets for 1.40.
Considering the fold, we are at 330 effective sheets for 1.40. 350 > 330, get the 3 ply (lol).
This is a little bit funky obviously and just works because of seeing a divisor. If not for that I would have tried once each way to get cost per full effective sheet or cost per half effective sheet to see which one has nicer numbers.
… Or just open the calculator app.
I’ve had the calculator open for 15 minutes but nothing is happening, is it broken? Help?
A nice division by 0.6
Funny how brains can work so differently lol
Feel like bidet’s must be accounted for if we gonna start the math justifications
Wait, you are not telling me you use a single 3 layer piece to wipe, are you?
Everyone has different purposes. Some are dabbing away urine, some are drying their selves after using a bidet, some are cleaning the walls after MAHA “fixed” our lettuce situation.
Sometimes if it’s clean
The tp I normally buy from Amazon went from $19.99 to $24.99 during the pandemic. The horror!!
Under trump 2.0, they have been over $30 on average, sometimes as high as $43.99.
Right now they’re $26.99 and I literally bought 6 boxes. I’ve been refusing to buy over $30 and have been buying a cheaper brand until the price came down 🧻
I got sick of the price gouging so I got a bidet for $25 and a pack of 60 cotton washcloths for $30, and other than for guests and such, I just don’t use TP anymore. If I’m wiping after a bowel movement, it goes into the laundry and isn’t used again until washed (sanitary cycle with bleach). So each cloth is used for a day at most.
I know that probably sets off the squick for a lot of people, but it is basically the same soil level as worn underpants (and way less gross than cloth diapers!), since the bidet takes care of the actual mess, so it just doesn’t bother me, and in the long run saves a ton. Extra bonus, I never run out!
Wait what? How many rolls are in a box? I pay 3 bucks for a pack of 3ply.
24 rolls
4 things of 6 rolls per box.
So yes I have over 150 rolls of tp on hand right now. Don’t judge me!
20 dollars for 24 rolls of toilet paper is insane. Here 10 rolls are not even 4 eur. Edit: and 3ply not 2
I can pay $28 for 36 rolls of 3 ply 255 sheets per roll (quilted northern) or $27 for 45 rolls of 2 ply 473 sheets per roll (pom) at Sam’s Club
I use less of the single ply than the double ply. I think I make it 1.5 ply thick, or something. Anyway, I don’t want a bidet, you guys have fun with that.
I’m living the dream with wet wipes.
Just don’t flush them. They ruin septic tank and clog city sewer pumps and drains, especially if they mix with fats or grease, which also shouldn’t be flushed or put down drains.
They’re specifically flushable wipes, not actual wetwipes brand.
No wipes are actually flushable.
https://www.consumerreports.org/home-garden/are-flushable-wipes-really-flushable-a1736074350/
There exist flushable wipes that disolve in water but the issue is finding them.
Interesting, although frustratingly it didn’t actually tell me what to watch out for. Just saying “no” to an entire product category seems like an excessively large hammer
Yes, because the entire category is a myth
Because the bad products are claiming to be good. It’s a poisoned product category.
A bidet is a safer option, and cheaper in the long term.
If they dissolved while wet, they would turn into mush in the packaging. If you really want your wipes to be wet, moisten your TP before wiping.
Toilet paper doesn’t dissolve when damp. Before you get condescending, think about if your criticism applies to the product you’re telling me to use instead.
Lol, the TP turns to pulp when you flush, the wet wipes turn to goo. Don’t flush any kind of wet wipes.
If you want to prove me wrong then put a wet wipe in a cup for 15min and a piece of TP in another cup then shake it. Send pics to update us.
You can test your “flushable” wipes. Put them in a jar with water, shake for 30 seconds. Do the same with toilet paper. Wait 5 minutes. If your wipes aren’t as broken down as the toilet paper, they will cause problems in your pipes.
Inbefore people start saying those are a scam. Did you test if they actually dissolve in water?
They’re sold wet, they don’t dissolve in water, that wouldn’t make any sense.
You do realise they are not sold soaked in water? They are soaked with other things, you can check the packaging.
You’re gonna need a plumber eventually
Act particular reason why flushable wipes aren’t flushable? They’re already almost at the point of disintegration when you use them. As long as you’re not using a lot, it doesn’t seem like they’d cause a problem
A reasonable assumption to make, but you would be wrong.
According to Howard Carter, president of the board of trustees at the Water Environment Federation (WEF), a nonprofit established in 1928 that works to protect public health and the environment, this isn’t just a nightmare scenario—it’s a reality for these workers. Carter tells CR that workers can be on call any given night, and it’s not unusual to get calls at 2 a.m. because of pumps blocked by wipes. “We try to keep up with these things by engineering different products to help, but it’s just a very, very expensive endeavor,” Carter says. These costs, part of the NACWA’s estimate of $441 million a year in operating costs to deal with wipes in sewage systems, range from investing in new technologies to track the level of water in pipes and manholes due to blockages from wipes, to investing in new pumps that will actually cut up the wipes. “These are all extra capital costs associated with increased staff time to monitor and remediate,” Carter says.
Hell, here’s a link to a FAQ from a company that would benefit from more people using “flushable” wipes:
https://www.rotorooter.com/blog/toilet/wet-wipes-not-passing-plumbers-flushability-test
Wet wipes are nice, but this is peak:
I do want to get a bidet, but not that 😅
