It pays minimum wage with the barest benefits legally possible, with an inexperienced manager who thinks a boss should be a inconsistent tyrant. And it’s offered through a website that is far more interested in scraping whatever data it can find than actually matching people with jobs.
But yeah, it’s the drug testing that’s the issue.
I was a regular dabber for years when I quit cold turkey in anticipation of drug tests during job applications. I was completely sober for 8 months and when I got hired without a drug test I was so mad. I was expecting more drastic changes during sobriety but the only thing I noticed was the return of dreams. I hadn’t really noticed their absence during my decades of cannabis use but while sober they were much more vivid and outlandish than I remember them being. They’ve since disappeared again once I resumed dabbing shortly after starting work.
Where I live, they already had frozen hirings.
My company is hiring and I don’t think we drug test at all. If anybody in Los Angeles wants to make sheet metal, PM me.
Dam you’re cool, real equitable help. GL in life and I hope you win.
Yeah mine is not you can be (and are) randomly pinged at any time to go pee in a cup and blow in a tube because they would really really rather that people not be zonked out on the job and make some horrific decision that could impact safety. Sometimes people fail the random tests and get canned but it’s more common for people coming in to test hot and never get started. Good paying jobs but I guess people figure drugs and/or not having to hold back from alcohol on your duty week are better
They still do it in healthcare. I can’t imagine the absolute fiasco that would happen if a doc does a knee replacement on the left knee when they were supposed to do it on the right and turns out he pops positive.
I also worked in construction for a short time and had a machine operator damage an existing building. He went straight to be tested and I don’t even remember if I saw him onsite again
Yea safety, but what the fuck does the things I do in my free time have to do with work? Are the bosses also testing for alcohol and drugs? How do we know they aren’t doing drugs that metabolize faster than can be tested? You want me to not do drugs pay me on my off time as well if not get bent and I won’t work there
I don’t even bother studying for drug tests anymore. If they care about weed and mushrooms then I’ll work elsewhere.
War on drugs do not aim at reducing drug trasfic nor drug use. We all know it has never been effective anywhere for any drug.
We also know that treating drug as a medical problem is the best way to reduce both use and traffic.
War on drugs are just a way to force dealers to become more professional, and avoid “freelance” ones. War on drugs are a pure win for drugs, from their start.
And to feed the prison industrial complex, of course.
workers at the charge of public expenses, working for the benefits of private companies 😍
Ugh, that’s dystopian.
Yup they wanted to get “those people” off the streets.
Welp I guess this is one thing where ai can’t replace , living test subject, yikes.
You know whats funny? When I worked in education, no one cared. I would start my day with some pot after a night of heavy drinking. I bet I smelled like a bottle of vodka. Well I know I did, one day I had to go home cause I was so hung over and no one batted an eye. It didn’t help that the easiest conversation starter in the teachers lounge was what will you be drinking tonight. So yeah most jobs don’t really care.
How is it possible that ‘companies can’t find enough workers’ but it takes more applications than ever to find a job? Something doesn’t fucking add up
For us it’s an issue with marketing the position in a manner thay doesn’t result in 5,000 automated applications from an Indian headhunter firm that blindly clicks everything.
I’ve had a job opening at my city for weeks that pays higher than any other city in the state does for the same position, and we’ve had a grand total of one applicant who wasn’t qualified.
What is the job description?
Well there actually isn’t anyone looking at the applications! That would cost someone $20 a hour!
They can’t find enought workers that will accept shit pay and 0 benefits, but they don’t like saying that.
The pay is what doesn’t add up
AI sucks at screening. But everyone is doing it.
Yeah this is a good thing. I wish drugs were decriminalized and treated as a health epidemic.
It’ll never happen as long as Republicans are running the show.
Or neoliberal democrats.
I’m a medical provider at a university hospital. They have a drug testing policy, but they have only ever utilized it for staff, not faculty members. I’ve worked in my clinic for more than ten years and have never been drug tested.
Pretty sure the hospital administrators really don’t want to know if any of their physicians have any bad habits. It’s kinda a lose lose situation for the hospital, and it’s pretty well known that our field has substance abuse issues.
Health care should be one of the top 3 places to test. But having worked in healthcare for 20+ years a doctor could come in for the drug test, do a rail in front of the tester, make the hold the cup while they piss all over the place and walk out smiling, and admin would think nothing less of it
I am 47, and I have never not once been tested for drugs for work.
For most of my jobs, I’m relatively certain that drugs were in fact required.
If anyone tried to test me for drugs, I would tell them to go fuck themselves, and I’d happily walk away from the interview.
I have told prosprective employers to fuck off over:
take a drug test
Take a psych test
Unlock my credit for credit checks
Take a full face scan
Register with id.me for the application process
Im 46, and I’ve only had one job that didnt do a pre-employment drug test. But most of my jobs have involved machines that can hurt people if not handled right.
Construction and health care. All required prescreening drug tests, and all my jobs in healthcare had us subject to randoms.
The only jobs I didn’t get a piss test were all retail/food service. Every professional job I’ve had (tech) has made me drop a UA. I may have had to study to pass the pre-employment test, but thankfully no place I’ve been does randoms.
As my former manager put it, boss man isn’t going to make us drop a UA cuz he knows he’s lose his whole IT department.
Ok, storytime!
I worked in a little fabrication shop back in 2013 or so. The general manager got a hair up his ass and decided he was going to drug test everyone.
We lost everyone on all three shifts except for me, and my supervisor. My supervisor had been picked up a month prior for possession, and was getting regular drug tests from someone else. Im just boring.
The shop closed down a few months later. They couldn’t get anyone to work there, because people who do that kind of work talk to each other.
I’m 46 and my line of work is one of the more dangerous jobs involving heavy equipment. There is always a drug test as a pre employment screening, but that’s basically it. Nobody checks again because they’d have to fire half the workforce.
There are some jobs for which I can understand when it would be very important to ensure the operators of heavy equipment absolutely must be guaranteed to be sober at all times.
Beyond heavy machine operators, this also includes livery drivers, airline pilots, etc.
But those are specialty jobs for which my previous comments are excluded.
Thank you for doing your job well, and soberly
I used to run lasers capable of cutting 19mm steel plate. Have to be sober for that!
Don’t forget Healthcare and insurance. I only know insurance because I have an uncle that has said he’d start micro dosing just to help him sleep but that could result in loss of his license
I’m skeptical that’s what we’re actually testing for, though. Employment drug tests are just to see if they’ll stop doing drugs for a month. We don’t expect heavy machine operators to do a field sobriety test at the start of their shift.
A lot of those jobs are subject to random screenings
I live in Germany, and over here unless your employer can present a damn good safety critical reason for why you must be sober at work (e.g. operating heavy machinery) it’s not even legal to randomly drug test employees.
For your standard office job, or McDonalds cashier, or even high level office positions it would all be illegal for the employer to (randomly) drug test you.
As long as you’re not operating dangerous machinery, it’s none of your employers business what you do off the clock at home, even if that’s consuming illegal drugs. They can (obviously) ban you from being high at work, but they would reasonable suspicion to accuse of you violating that, and potentially trigger a test (which means effectively the thing that is banned is for your performance at work to be impaired by drugs. If you work equally well high as sober, and don’t reek of weed when you walk in, you can pretty much just work high without risk of much consequences)
All I know about Germany is that, aside from producing the world‘s most AWESOME gay porn, and having some extremely bizarre trash disposal laws, it is an confoundingly boring country.
But it’s nice to know that, aside from the outrageously restrictive drug laws, they don’t do on the job drug testing.
I have and am 43 and it was the most miserable day at work I’ve had. I worked 2nd shift and walked into a mass screening. I clocked in and was fine. About 20 minutes later, I really had to pass badly, but the bathrooms were being dedicated to pass tests. There was one person completely refusing to take the test. It go bad, like really bad. I eventually had to say “If you don’t either pass test me or let me in the bathroom, I am making a mess right here and now, uncontrollablly.” to my boss’s face. They thankfully saw reason and let me go test. The guy that refused was promptly fired. His refusal was idiotic because there would have been no real repercussions - my boss even had a bad history with coccinellids, and would have just written him up. It was a sad day.
How does that Nazi dick taste?
Nobody fucking tells me when I can piss. I and the sole authority over my own bodily functions.
Yeah, fuck off with that. Do not come at me with that bullshit. You instantly commented. Maybe, just fucking maybe I was and am completely stuck in a horrid capitalist country and was required to do so to eat. You don’t know me or the full situation. How does the fucking fascist authoritarian dick taste from willfully being on a piefed instance that hasn’t forked away from that? Nobody told me I couldn’t piss, I was doing the normal human thing of following expected social norms. I am going to do myself the traditional favor I do and not block you, but flag you as someone that not only maybe has it out for anarchism in general, but a potential bot since your comment was instant, accusatory, and vapid.
Wow. How pathetic.
Marching into the gas chambers, while still defending the Nazis.
I guess some people will never learn…
I am not going to engage with someone that attempts to paint me as a fucking Nazi from an anecdote.

I never even heard of “anarchist Nexus”, whatever that is
But go on and keep defending Nazis and how they stole your body autonomy, like a wife who defends the husband that beats her…
No replies at all for evidence of this account being a zionazi. I suppose I digress.
What “evidence”?
You’re petty deflections are nothing but that
Oh fucking look, the idiot/bot that replied within seconds has nothing to say all of a sudden trying to mark an anarchist as a Nazi.
Oh fucking look, the idiot/bot that replied within seconds has nothing to say all of a sudden trying to mark an anarchist as a Nazi.
Funny how you called yourself out for being an idiot/bot
😂
It seems that your AI chat buddy doesn’t understand the concept of comment hierarchies… Lol
…what?
what?
Was that too complicated for your grok prompt?
Lol
Yeah, most restaurants dont test for drugs for a reason.
Anytime I have worked for fintech I’ve been tested and fully background checked every time, pretty annoying but the trade off is the pay I suppose
“No coke in this guy’s system, rejected.”
Damn that made me laugh,if only that was the case I’m sure the coffee budgets at work would be cocaine budgets instead lol
I work with a vulnerable population. In addition to every job doing piss testing my fingerprints and DNA get recorded and checked against unsolved assaults / murders. Nothing ever comes up but I always worry I’m gonna be like the last person that touched a vase before the dude that bashed somebody’s head in with it and the dude who did it isn’t in any databases and I’m gonna have to answer a bunch of intrusive questions.
If I wanna buy blow in whatever city I’m visiting, I always ask a bartender or a waiter for a hook up.
It’s a rule I refer to as “industry standard”
I’m 36 and have been drugs tested once. They reckoned they’d seen me drop a gram of coke on camera so I got 6 weeks paid holiday.
I have been drug tested several times, and I am in fact “on drugs”. So, I get a call within a couple of days of getting tested to provide them with access to my pharmacy records to prove they are legally prescribed.
So, wtf were they doing that you got 6 weeks?Same, and once I even got into a position where I was told I was free to sue a potential employer because they dismissed me without giving an opportunity to present proof of prescription
Apparently it fell out of my pocket on a Monday morning (doubtful but I did head home for the weekend and blacked out a bit so possible…but I would have done the coke if that was the case 😂) got dragged into a meeting on Wednesday, pissed clean and just got told to go home until I heard otherwise.
Obviously, because nobody oopsie-daisies a gram of coke without going back to grab it, lol.
😂 I don’t live in the best area and my dog is an early morning boy, I’ve found 3 grams this month. Kinda feel sorry for whoever lost it but I’m also no longer a fan so hopefully that might help someone
So… Where do you live? Please drop a pin on a map and reply only in a DM.
I’ll drop by and bring snacks!
Not sure how to drop a pin but I’ve just dm’d you my what3words. What snacks are you bringing?
Yet the actual unemployment in America is around 24%, so how hard are they looking? Or is it they’re just stopping because they know it’s a waste of money?
Those unemployment statistics often lump in people who can’t work (disability) or aren’t looking for work (like a stay at home parent/caregiver). It’s rarely just people actively looking for work and not finding it.
You really have to dig into how the percentage is calculated to get any real value out of it.
The ‘functional unemployment rate’ that reaches 24% includes ‘those involuntarily working part time for povery wages less than $26,000 annually before taxes’ according to CBS news
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/functional-unemployment-us-labor-market-analysis/
The disability rate and disenfranchisement rates are different statistics. Just straight unemployment period amongst those who can work and/or are lloking is the lower single digit figure, generally around 4-7%
“I have to hire a great work force to compete with those cyber criminals and some of those kids want to smoke weed on the way to the interview,” - James Comey as FBI director.

America: big on winning wars.
…Lost the war on terror to terror.
…Lost the war on drugs to drugs.
And Vietnam. And Iraq. And Afghanistan. And koreas. The US is just terrible at war tbh.
To be fair, America initially lost the war on terror, then switched sides, so they’re technically winning.
We were doing terrorism long before 9/11
True.
Are we the baddies?!
We basically have been since the puritans landed on Plymouth Rock.
I was going to write something sarcastic about transatlantic relations, but honestly we deserve some blame for the Puritans. The English Reformation and its consequences were fairly severe.
Losing the war in Iran.
Abstract concepts dont tend to have the capacity for surrender, after all.
Because their leaders are idiots who think attacking the symptom will eliminate the cause.
