Eah. A lot of “farmers” are land owners who hire other people to work on their farms. The average net worth of an American farming household is like, north of $1.5 million iirc.

I figure so many of them are so old the drug test would come out inconclusive due to the drug cocktails they probably take daily. Just think of all the shit people have to take in retirement homes then add in a factor of free healthcare and access to top tier doctors who can prescribe without concern over ethics.

This makes me unreasonably upset. Farmers need to be drug tested AND breathalyzed. They also need to provide up to date household income information, including the gross income of anyone living on their property. They should also be required to provide last 3 to 5 employer references, verification they are working 40 hours per week or volunteering an equivalent amount at a state approved business, this all has to be done on an online site that requires desktop computer access. You can’t use Chrome or Firefox, only Microsoft Edge. If they don’t fill out the forms and attach the appropriately filled out paper documents properly, they will get a mailed statement letting them know they were denied and can re file after a 30 day waiting period. They can call to speak to their case manager, but there is only a phone tree that takes them to voicemail. If they miss the call back from the case manager, their file will be flagged as unresponsive and may require filling out all forms and paperwork again. They may also be denied because of typos, unfinished forms on the case manager side, or an unreasonable reading of acceptance rules.

This is not commentary on social services in America at all /s

Dumb. There’s no universal measure of IQ; its all language and education dependent why not just require a college degree to vote and skip all the intermediate steps?

Really we should be paying people a bonus for completing educational goals instead of driving people in debt.

There is no universal measure of INTELLIGENCE. IQ can absolutely be measured but the question is whether or not it’s representative of something we care about. The fact that you open with “dumb” then say something that is patently incorrect is insanely on the nose.

I agree, let’s give more voting power to people who are more likely to have made more considered choices and stop pretending like every vote is the same. Far and away most people are not so bright. In the same way that BMI is not a good measure of health, IQ is not a good measure of intelligence. On the borderline it means nothing, but a BMI of 200 is not good and neither is an IQ of 74 and I’m all for screening at that quality.

In the late 18th century US it made sense to make everyone equal and every vote equal (leaving aside slavery and gender inequality) because by and large access to information and education WAS equal. In the end of 2025, that is unfortunately just not true. People and opinions are striated and that is worth some consideration.

If you can’t read at a 5th grade level, I don’t really care who the TV told you to vote for.

Lol, no. Why should I stop? The motherfuckers posting political shit are trying to influence it, too.

Because you’re a hypocrite and they’re not. You don’t want politics, yet you’re doing politics right now. Us normal people like politics, so it’s not hypocritical for us to do it.

Normal people like politics? Huh. That’s a new one. So I’m not normal, and all the other people who agree with me aren’t either. You’re being manipulative and judgemental at the same time, while falsey calling me a hypocrite for disagreeing with you.

If you like politics and memes, I have great news for you! There’s a community on Lemmy SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT called c/politicalmemes! Have fun!

Not liking politics is extremely weird. Normal people like to watch political movies like Star Wars and read political books like The Hunger Games. We listen to political music like Eminem and appreciate political art like Banksy. Normal people tune into political podcasts like Joe Rogan, even though it sucks, because they love politics. We play political games like Metal Gear, and some of us even spend our sundays worshipping political gods like Jesus. You’re weird for not liking political media.

People upvote this shit because they think they’re helping. Some sort of “activism” bullshit. They don’t seem to realize that their actions are having the opposite fucking effect. The presence of politics where it shouldn’t be is causing people to disengage. It causes apathy.

          aw cranky?

life is politics writ large. shitposting is the purest form of politics imho.

do you really think this meme is attempting to affect policy? it’s not. it’s the shitpost equivalent of commiserating about a ridiculous double standard.

maybe you’re not cut out for the shitpost life friendo
