yeah, a long history of public shitting at strenuous events, particularly women. Her issues was it’s all over the indoor events track and equipment,

    https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2026/sep/18/hyrox-joanna-wietrzyk-history-of-athletes-pooing-mid-race-why-and-how

Wietrzyk isn’t alone: other public mishaps published over the past three decades include the 1998 London Marathon winner, Catherina McKeirnan, who dodged cameras along the way while suffering several bouts of diarrhoea. Paula Radcliffe, the winner of the 2005 London Marathon, wasn’t so lucky; she was publicly caught relieving herself of debilitating stomach pains by the road near the finish line, blaming it on too much gluten-free pasta and grilled salmon the night before. In 2024 the US athlete Taylor Knibb won the Dubai T100 despite having to relieve herself during the race, uttering the immortal line to a camera operator: “I just shit myself … so can you not get my ass? Thank you.”

I understand this to an extent, but not the post competition behavior.

I was a runner in secondary school. You’re taught to push through pain and discomfort to reach the finish. If 24 year old me shat myself whilst participating in the Olympics, I can imagine possibly panicking and deciding to continue. You have to make instantaneous decisions with unwavering followthrough whilst competing as second guessing can make the difference between ranking first or third. You don’t overthink, just decide, execute, and move forward.

I cannot imagine bragging about it later on social media. I’d be mortified. Hell, I AM mortified for her.

Shame and embarrassment work in strange ways and everyone is different. She’s clearly very goal-directed and a very capable athlete. I can’t imagine all the extremes of emotion she had to feel with the backlash that followed.

Excuse me for saying this, but what a shitty thing to happen all around.

If I’m remembering correctly it was Thor Björnsson who once said “Sometimes you shit yourself. It happens. And then you come back the next day and lift again, and it might happen again, but that’s okay.”

So, I realise being in a gym makes this far worse than, say, an endurance athlete, but do you think part of the reason she was given so much shit (lol) is because nobody takes Hyrox seriously?

I’d imagine an athlete doing this sort of thing in a more popular sport would face more criticism and ridicule. If anything, Hyrox being niche is probably saving her from a lot of attention and outrage.

Yes, but they usually dont get it all over their legs, arms, and face while leaving trail behind them, nor smear shared equipment with it like a baboon’s art project.

“Organisers should assess whether such a situation could affect the health or wellbeing of other competitors,” he said.

Dr Li said this was particularly important because HYROX was an indoor event.

“Take a marathon as an example. If a competitor is menstruating, organisers would generally respect their decision to continue because a marathon is an outdoor event,” he said.

"They don’t share equipment with other competitors, so it generally doesn’t pose a public safety concern.

“But HYROX is an indoor event, where competitors share equipment. In that situation, I think the organisers should have staff step in and adjust the event, or take appropriate emergency measures.”

          https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-09-14/hyrox-beijing-backlash-after-athlete-soils-herself/107151004

Outside during a marathon, you could make an argument. But inside, using equipment that everyone after you will also need to use, is a different story.

Yup. Apparently they also have to do some Nokia Snake shenanigans to make sure the entire course fits in the available space, so each person gets to experience it multiple times, to say nothing of the spotter who has to stay right by her while she’s doing the crossfit parts.

Maybe it’s unrealistic to expect the hyper-competitive athlete to pull herself out, but this should not have been a difficult call for the organization. I would also draw a distinction with menstruation, where the taboo is much less justifiable than the literal disease vector that loose stool is.

Well, it wasn’t so much the shitting. She could have handled it right then and nobody would have heard about it

It was the smearing shit across the entire venue, other athletes, and all the equipment, to the point where they had to do an overnight emergency carpet replacement. Then going home and bragging about it in a now deleted post, humiliating both Hyrox and her (now former) sponsor Puma as the internet was flooded with thousands of shocking pictures and videos

In a statement, HYROX China said the area was decontaminated after the race had finished.

“After the incident, the organising committee immediately closed off and isolated the affected area and track, and completed comprehensive disinfection,” organisers said.

“Relevant equipment was removed from the venue, and waste was disposed of in accordance with municipal waste-management standards.”

The organisers also said they would replace flooring at the venue to protect future athlete health.

She shit herself, got shit on her hands and legs, and continued to use the shared equipment. It was bad enough the competition organizers are replacing the flooring. That’s pretty much what the other person said.

you make it sound like she running around intentionally finger painting it smearing it on people and things

She chose to get her shit everywhere instead of taking care of her mess. If that’s not intentionally smearing shit on things, I don’t know what would be.

If you have paint on your hands and you choose to use somebody’s thing without cleaning your hands, you chose to get paint on it. She chose to get her shit on everything, so she gets blamed for the thing she did.

Well, she got it all over her arms and hands then actively smeared it into equipment other people had to use. This went on for like 40 minutes. Then she publicly bragged about doing so.

Your interpretation of the story is that she was unaware this was happening?

You. you seriously want the truth?

              good.

              about time.

Cuz fact is: she was apologetic and relinquished her prize shortly after the incident and the sponsor regretted their decision in it too. This was barely a story but someone needed to insinuate this girl had some deeper issues just to make it that more foreboding than it really is. She fucked up. Just like alot of people do every day. Then she apologized. just like anyone else does everyday when they fuck up. nothing more. No one got hurt thankfully. A valuable lesson was learned. Could it have gone better? sure. but we cant change the past. so we really could all move on and could very well find far better stories than this to be outraged by.

This was all pretty easy to look up btw. but that is no fun for these little trolls to look up the real facts of a story cuz they all want to pitchfork the shit out of the real news.

not everything is a doomscroll in the way they would so desperately want it to be just for the rage clicks.

How these narratives get so bent is more sickening than some lady shitting her pants.

So here’s the thing. Other people have actually posted sources instead of just ranting about it. Including the full timeline with screenshots that disprove what you’re saying. So why would anybody believe you?

Even in your dubious version of events you completely gloss over the fact that she continued on for an egregious amount of time after making the mess. It just doesn’t add up
