Holy shit computer hardware road pirates in the year of our lord 2026. What a wacky world we live in
Don’t forget datacenters being bombed as military targets.
Completely valid consider they’re being used as both propaganda hubs and to designate targets by multiple sides.
Thats what happens when you pushbhardware to be more expensive than gold
So they get paid selling the “stolen” hardware and insurance fraud on top of it. And still nobody does anything.
Cyberpunk Lore predicted much. Stealing hardware from a vehicle convoy was definitely a mission.
Knocking the AV out of the sky via emp cost about 120 million eddies.
Damn defo inside jobs. Won’t be surprised if the fucking suits start demanding HR to double-check applicant bonafides (where I live, applying for a job requires you must have a clean slate – no police records – and plenty of government IDs).
FAST and FURIOUS - Opening Scene Car Chase
In that movie they were stealing VCRs, weren’t they? Makes me feel a billion years old
Stealing VCRs are a gateway drug to becoming an enemy to multiple countries and driving in space.
From DVD players to GPUs in a generation
Fast and Furious Betamax!
Doing Gods work
Turns out the most profitable AI business model is stealing the hardware before anyone can spend billions teaching it to hallucinate. Wall Street calls that an asset light strategy. Nvidia calls it demand. The thieves call it same day delivery.
Admit it: you had fun with that
Hell, I had fun with that!
OP is an AI bot, so I doubt any fun was had.
I hate that this is a thing. An AI bot posting about AI things on one of the least AI friendly places on the internet and getting to the “frontpage”.
It’s all fucked.Huh, checked out their profile and you might be right. Ironic that most of their recent posts are about AI
The profit margins must be great.
Wall Street calls that an asset light strategy. Nvidia calls it demand. The thieves call it same day delivery.
That’s a very AI-way of phrasing it.
A new “back the their roots” fast and furious movie. Instead of A/V great it’s GPUs this time
Damn, beat me to it. The Fast & The Furious truck hijacking is one of my “what part of a movie hasn’t aged well” go-to responses. They were stealing shipments full of millions of dollars of ultra high-end, top-of-the-line, super high-tech… DVD players? The same DVD players that are like $5 for an entire pallet on eBay now?
Same will hold true for GPUs in 20 years time. People will laugh as they watch from their quantum computers.
I hope I quantum leap the fuck into a different universe
oh, boy!
How does the value of equipment nowadays make it not age well? They were still worth a lot during the time the film is set.
See it as a quaint historical drama.
Still kinda A/V gear.
I Think this too! Redo fast and furious with GPU!
grand-theft-GPU
You have to steal the hardware IRL before you can play the game on it.
Good. Where to we sign up to fund their efforts lol

Thieves steal millions dollars worth of shipments by hacking a highway billboard and prompt injecting all the trucks
INSERT $my_house INTO DESTINATION
No WHERE clause. Send it all here and I’ll sort it as I go.
This is the kind of Robin Hood shit I can get behind.
Steal from people who not only increased prices for the common folks but can easily afford the loss. Give it back to folks who are just trying to live their lives.
Fuck AI.
I mean, it says the thieves are sending the hardware to China. That can mean anything from gaming black market to state-sponsored funneling of hardware to Chinese AI companies. It might be less Robin Hood and more… I don’t know, some Jackie Chan movie where Triads are operating in the US and working with a Chinese diplomat to help some mega-corp.
Give what back? Nothing was taken from people trying to live their lives. This stealing is of datacenter gear.
I’m sorry, but this is not going to folks trying to live their lives. They couldn’t even use the specialized hardware.
I want that to be true, but from the article:
The first instinct is to assume that all of the gear would end up on the second-hand market. But in an additional twist to the story, the thieves already have overseas buyers ready before the heist actually takes place.
Law enforcement officials believe that the gear is slurped up by entities operating in countries under the U.S.’ tight AI export controls, including China. Verified Carrier, a platform for vetting carriers, says that this year, it’s seen suspicious activity linked with U.S. cargo theft in India, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Colombia, and Moldova. Scott Cornell of TAPA Americas estimates that six to seven out of 10 stolen cargo shipments (data center gear or otherwise) end up overseas.
See? The thieves are just thinking about money, not justice or social balance.
Time to reboot CHIPS.
Real life fast & furious, but with GPUs instead of DVD players
How may eddies for a haul choom?
