What’s the deal with Ed Sheeran? I keep hearing people hating on him the past day or two but I have not seen any reason why.

The venues hosting his tours kicked Macklemore out for supporting Palestine. He wouldn’t take a stand and all of his supporting bands, including his backing band quit.

Yeah like he didn’t even need to announce support for Palestine or anything. Just needed to say “don’t kick out my fellow speech artists for their speech”.

Gonna say a pretty popular opinion on here and get down voted to hell, but I don’t care about fake interest points.

While I do agree with the general sentiment on here, I get incredibly tired of this mob mentality. It’s like if you have any minority opinion you’re treated like some evil piece of shit.

Yeah, I don’t agree with Ed Sheeran, but Jesus Christ he doesn’t need to be black listed into oblivion because of one unpopular opinion. Does anyone even know WHY he has that opinion? I doubt there’s a single person on here who doesn’t have some unpopular opinion about something, and if you don’t, you are full of shit and just parroting the most popular opinions around you so you fit in.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I posted a similar comment on the music post about this and boy oh boy, it was an avalanche of downvotes and I was supporting genocide.

To me the whole thing is blown way out of proportion and that was my point. Nothing to do with the issue itself, just to the strong overreaction, fed now by the media and bots.

if you have any minority opinion

I dare you to come up with a version of this where someone got canceled for “any minority opinion.”

Supporting a genocidal regime isn’t just “any” opinion, it’s a pretty fuckin’ big one.

Yeah, I don’t agree with Ed Sheeran, but Jesus Christ he doesn’t need to be black listed into oblivion because of one unpopular opinio

…has Sheeran been blacklisted? It sure sounds like everyone with actual power is fully supportive of him.

      black listed into oblivion

Meanwhile, the one who actually got blacklisted was Macklemore, while Ed Sheeran has a whole tour ahead of him.

If people don’t want to go to his tours because of his shitty behavior, tough shit.

Can I please say, why are we, the proletariat, even giving this controversy attention?

We all watched how the Epstein files were released and not a single person is facing actual punishment from it.

Macklemore is an opening act and is not why people were buying tickets for this tour. (Was he relevant? Did people really pay for this tour because of him? Now he’s got attention from Palestine sympathizers who might give him actual attention his next album).

America is by and large apathetic to Gaza or doesn’t even know the conflict exists. Half of us don’t know what exists outside of our own communities.

Macklemore gets a pat on the back for saying “what’s right.”, Sheeran gets a boost in ticket sales because now his tour over multiple stadiums, is plastered on the front page of every news aggregator. Live Nation makes bank off of everyone involved here.

And Robert Kraft is probably cackling to the bank about how we are all eating out of the palm of his boss’s hands.

With no one going after him, only Sheeran, the elite win again.

For all I know, Macklemore and Sheeran were both powerless to their actual opinions on any of this.

I don’t think it’s about popularity of opinions. Popularity of opinions vary with context, Sheeran would have received an ovation if he did that shit in Israel, but that’s not it. I’m tired of the mob mentality too. Nevertheless, the issue is moral, and in this case, ethical. Even ethics change with context, but on things like genocide, it is pretty much universal. It’s not even about his opinions about Gaza, it’s about him revealing this network of people and entities that simply do not think a genocide is happening, because they don’t think Israel is killing actual people, actual children.

Whatever happens with Sheeran, as long as it’s legal, I don’t care. I don’t want him killed, but rescinding contracts is legal. Also, I didn’t care about him before, now I think he is a coward.

Had to look it up. She’s Jewish and has that mistaken belief that the Israeli government = all Jews everywhere.

Legit question, why the fuck do people seem to think government = a people? Like I fucken hate the English government, aristocracy, and royalty to the point I want to purge it but that doesn’t mean I want to exterminate the English as a whole. Is this a side effect of nation states? Or is it moreso a result of Israel in particular? Because I feel like I had folks accuse me of racism over hating certain governments and countries before namely N Korea, S Korea, and Russia but I don’t know if thats dishonesty or not.

I mean Grint is on the side of the transphobes, and Charles has admitted to sexting with 16 year old boys, so I’m happy to throw the lot of them onto the pyre.

      Source?

      From bbc

In a statement, the actor - Ron Weasley in the Potter films - said “I firmly stand with the trans community”.

“Trans women are women. Trans men are men. We should all be entitled to live with love and without judgment.”

Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson have also voiced support for trans people following Rowling’s remarks.

So has Eddie Redmayne, star of Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and its sequel.

Grint, now 31, told The Times: “I firmly stand with the trans community and echo the sentiments expressed by many of my peers.”

I’m guessing they are referring to Grint returning to Harry Potter for the HBO series. Despite what he says he has chosen to continue to support the franchise which funds trans genocide.

I looked into it and i think its a shame and a blight on his otherwise good (i think) character.

But on the other hand, I can’t fault him for feeling nostalgic sentimental about the character that he embodied from child to adulthood. Thats quite a step beyond the nostalgia of consuming the media.

That doesn’t instantly make him a transphobe.

I compare it with Minecraft a lot. In the beginning before doubling down people said harry potter was written by Hatsune Miku echoing the Hatsune Miku created minecraft meme.

That meme originated after Notch also made some very toxic and small minded twitter comments (though his earlier blog did show him on support of lgbt).

Granted Notch sold Minecraft, calmed down (and possibly sobered up) so Minecraft profits dont go to him anymore… But Microsoft, the current owner, is literally complicit in helping Israel bomb Palestinian children.

People who dont boycot the HP franchise are not all Transphobes just like players of Minecraft arent all zionist trans- and islamophobes.

But thats is just my opinion. I haven’t heard anyone make this comparison or use this meme in years.

      Correct.
And the actor who played Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies sometimes goes by one of his aliases, Ed Sheeran.

Lol, no seriously the post is a joke about Ed Sheeran looking like Ron Weasley and Pink looking like James Charles.
