In c/unpopularopinion, people just upvote the opinions the like, making them popular. There are barely any unpopular opinions there.

Social media treats Asian racism as highly offensive. All because a restaurant puts a sign that says they can’t come in.

The US has racism where they threaten your life. They pull out guns, call police, chase you out. Sundown towns still exist. I would rather have a sign than sit down only to be told “We don’t serve your kind” any day.

    Money is imaginary.

It’s an arbitrary point system that distorts real wealth and minimizes the real value of labor and time in the favor of the ruling class. Without the distortion of value money inflicts on wealth, there could be no institutionalized slavery, no billionaires, and no housing crisis. The "invisible hand of the market’ claimed by economists is actually the very visible hand of Wall Street, the Federal Reserve and other central banks around the world actively selecting which types of wealth have value.

Source: Worked in the Stock Market in the 90s on the Options Floor. Watched market makers inflate their wealth by millions by calling down to the trading floor and starting rumors. Insider trading was rampant - I knew PeopleSoft was going to split three months before it did. Thirty years ago it turned my stomach to realize that every element of how we value wealth in this world is defined by drunken ex-frat boys hopped up on coke and Jack Daniels, breaking every rule meant to contain them and laughing when they had to pay the fine.

Today I can’t even look at a stock ticker without feeling nauseous.

Youre all radios picking-up a signal: there are no aliens, people who say they interact with aliens are crazed, the moon is natural, keep paying taxes goy

Whats stupid is that the “non-believers” mind has it so hard, they go haywire when confronted with this type of information. Why is that? Its not changing facts, its not re-writing history, its not costing them money, its not causing them pain

Aliens are here. They are disguised as humans. The moon is a base. The humans are a crop millions of years in the making. And they will absolutely destroy your life with invisible war & dream psychic attack when you find them out

Human euthanasia should be legalized and normalized, both medically assisted suicide and euthanasia when the person is suffering but unable to make decisions for themselves. If it’s an act of mercy to euthanize a pet who is suffering, then we should be able to have the same compassion for our fellow humans.

Thats a spicy one. I fully agree in principle, but I’m wary of the reality.

I’ve already seen a bunch of scare stories about doctors in Canada trying to force it onto patients who don’t want it. I can’t imagine its got to that point already, but the fear is real.

Also when it was my turn to do it to my cat it took me about 2 weeks of “maybe tomorrow we’ll see” putting off the inevitable. I didnt even really like the cat that much and it still hurt too much to do it when it needed done. I couldnt imagine being strong enough to make that decision for a parent or sibling.

100% the correct take in theory, in practice we’ll need to find a way to make sure sensible compassionate people are in charge every step of the way, which I’m not sure is truly possible to guarantee

Agree, though the threshold of suffering might be the part causing issues. I myself have a pretty low threshold, I don’t even feel super negative about suicide

I don’t think that’s an unpopular opinion. I can’t see most people really carrying one way or the other but governments don’t like it because it’s messy to legalize murder but only underscertain circumstances, so they would prefer to just not deal with it at all.

your tattoos “telling a story” is like a mandatory meeting that should have been an email about something I’m not involved with, and in fact, couldn’t care less about. You think enduring pain makes you seem tough, but it just makes you seem like someone who makes poor fiscal decisions in this shitty economy. And, (as an aside) ink was supposed to make you stand out because it was supposed to be a rare thing than not many people did. Now not many people have no ink at all so, if you were looking to be “unique…” (I mean, just sayin.')

If you’re going to have a tattoo you should do something interesting with it and not just get some random Chinese symbols, or a butterfly.

Pretty sure even with how popular they are, most people still don’t have any. Might depend on area and social circles.

Pedofiles, those that think and do not act, deserve more compassion by society. They can’t help the way they feel. Acting on it is obviously extremely harmful but they can’t even talk about it, even to therapists, for fear of persecution. The current methods of suppression are harmful and akin to conversion therapy for lgbt folks. We need to allow them to have a voice and access to non harmful animated CP with all consenting adult voice actors or AI. In out current society they are akin to trans people in the 1950s

brave take. i would add that the demonisation of such people forces them into the only community that will accept them: other paedophiles. then you get a bunch of paedophiles hanging out, with only 2 things in common: paedophilia, and a chip on their shoulder from being wronged by society. not a good combo if you wanna stop child abuse

I dunno if I necessarily agree with the AI aspect of it. Because I think that might just be a slippery slope.

But overall I think non acted upon pedophilia should be viewed more akin to intrusive thoughts where we also try to not condemn the person for the thoughts or fantasies they have.

My issue with genAI csam is two issues. One, what was that model trained on? Two, it would be fairly easy to hide real csam in a folder of generated csam.

If it’s drawn, it’s fine with the exception of when it’s based on a specific child.

Religion is for people who would rather be told what to do than figure life out themselves.

It takes a lot of reading and self interpretation of texts, which to me is “figuring life out themselves.”

In the context of Christianity, i don’t think you can say anyone is ordered around by religious leaders anymore - we live in a thoroughly secular society, and people know they can just walk away if they don’t like what a priest/pastor is saying (Or find a different one).

Can’t really speak for the other religious in that regard.

But maybe you can see that discerning between “which leader do i listen to” is an act of figuring life out by yourself.

no, I dont see that. Picking between canned ideas is still consuming canned ideas, but feel free to do that. I’m not here to tell you what to do.

And if they have read them, they use the texts to justify their own actions/lack of action. I went to a jw event where they basically kept saying “look, there are wars and extreme weather events happening, we just need to keep ‘studying’ to get closer to god to save everyone”, stuff like that, and comparing real life to whatever fictional events they have in their books as “proof” that it is real

I know every generation says it about the next but gen Z is just fucking weak. Some great people and an admittedly, dealt a shitty hand.

    But.

I’m going back to school as an elder millennial and my God, some of the craziness I’ve heard. A buddy teaches a film theory course a lot of kids use to satisfy early arts requirements at universities and he quickly realized if he didn’t show the movie in class, 2/3 of the class wouldn’t watch it despite being available through the school website. So, essentially, these kids (or their parents) are paying hundreds of dollars to watch movies instead of engaging.

The degree for which I’m going back recommends only 4 courses a tern with no work.I knew engineers who rocked 6 or 7, worked and were party animals.

Every advisor with whom I’ve spoke has basically said “look, if you’re going to treat it as an adult with adult work habits, you can handle 5 courses without trouble.” But they have all these disclaimers because kids and their parents go nuts when Johnny, who was just streaming hockey highlights all class somehow didn’t get a good grade.

This was the reason I left a career in academia and went back to engineering. The university enabled feckless plagiarising students and didn’t support the lecturers that upheld values. Okay then, good luck with your diploma mill bullshit, I’m going to literally double my wages and halve my stress by leaving.

As a late gen Z yep. I work in a school, and I feel like the course material has been chopped up and is being spoonfed now.

When I was there 10 years ago. (fuck) It was a unspoken rule that you had to learn to learn and quickly. If you did not well. Half our class dropped out.

However its also clear that schools are, in my country at least. A lot less likely to throw out students that probably should just find a profession rather than a higher degree.
