Everything in our environment is carcinogenic, poking into our cells and altering our DNA. Not surprised by this at all! We either become the crab or be eaten by the crab. This is the final truth. That’s making me kinda hungry, gonna eat some overlords tonight.

I’m one of fifteen people who play Marathon. In it there’s a pink cybernetic cat that you can sometimes spot. The lore audio entires you can find for it are heartbreaking. It’s human little girl whom it loved died, along with all the other humans, but it remains. Alone. Still missing and grieving the loss of the girl.

Say what you will, but Bungie could write some seriously good lore.

Lore and writing in Marathon and Destiny has always been fantastic. The issues are almost exclusively in higher level decision making…

Marathon looks like a decent MMOFPS, I might get it, thanks!

      Soapbox

I got fatigued by Call of Duty multiplayer – just the memes really, I tolerated dance move victory emotes but body skins are mental, especially paid licenced skins. My boomer hill is that Fortnite stole PUBG’s thunder and fucked up every franchise that chases the primary demographic with excessive vibrant colours and mtx. I hear Overwatch has gone a similar way. Marathon looks like eyewash for the mainstream franchises.

this is a misconception, “carcinization” doesn’t mean that literally everything eventually becomes a crab, people or dogs or sharks will not turn into crabs over the next hundred million years. it only applies to marine arthropods; things like lobsters, shrimp, and isopods have a strong tendency to fold their tails under their body, and get wider and flatter, becoming crab-like. the creature in the image, with its long straight tail, is more lobster-like than crab-like, and thus is actually a counterexample to carcinization

“Their ceremonies, despite everything, still prove to be a mystery to us. They were an advanced, sapient species and yet their fertility rituals, where they placed their gods within resealable glass vessels to be engulfed by their motile gametes, seemed to afford them the opposite effect. Surely this lowered their rate of conception rather than raising it, and surely they understood that. And yet, we find so many figurettes entombed within long coagulated excretions. Truly, they were a curious bunch.”
