My aunt died in 2013. At the reception after the funeral, my cousin (her stepson) suggested that we all make a “Harlem Shake” video. He did not say whether or not he wanted my aunt to appear in it. I refrained from explaining to the older members of the family what a Harlem Shake video was.

Fuck I forgot about the Harlem shake. Fucken ell feels like a lifetime ago, which given the fact I was 13 at the time is not too surprising.

I really want to see this now. Well, not RIGHT now. It’s currently 2pm, and I’m about to go to work.

But when I get home, and smoke some weed THEN I want to see this!

Someone recently posted this, or a similar picture, and I was about to ask the same question until they mentioned that they’d translated it to English for posting.

Teletubbies do say things such as “eh oh!”, or “Lala ball”. I don’t know if that was subtitled, but The Clangers definitely was.

I never watched it. It was before my time and I never had kids around when it was popular.

But didn’t some character talk in the show ?

It hurts my mind when you say it was before your time and you never had kids when it was popular. You’re both too young and too old to have watched Teletubbies.

I was 10 when it came out, fortunately, otherwise I may have grown up watching what appears to me to have been such a strange show. I recall it coming out and it being very weird.

Long ago, in Finland, the election night live coverage was on YLE TV1 and there was some other show on TV2. Since they both had the same Teletext pages and the same subtitle pages, someone posted online some choice screenshots.

(Don’t remember much, besides one with the main reporter guy, with the subtitles going like “goddamn it”.)

Obviously that’s not possible, even with computers.

Edit: This is a Sopranos quote for shitposting purposes. I’m disappointed, Lemmy.

I’ve definitely seen TV with subtitles be off by minutes. I would guess it was something like that. Sopranos played before or after this show. Maybe it was early morning and sopranos played at 4 am. This show at 5. Idk. Just speculating.

It could also be made up.

Yeah, it happens because subtitles are usually files(or something integrated in a video container like MKV), it may happen that they used the wrong file while adding subs

What do you mean, isn’t possible?

There are plenty of subtitle formats that come as a separate file rather than burned or embedded into the video. If whatever software they were using for broadcast selected the wrong sub it’s quite possible, though obviously the timing wouldn’t sync up.

SOP isn’t that far off from TEL so the possibility of selecting the wrong sub file seems to have decent potential

Another similar thing made its way across the internets a few years ago: https://www.boredpanda.com/tv-put-subtitles-kids-channel-political-debate-sweden/

Back then I think the conclusion was that someone had set up teletext subtitles from the wrong channel on that TV. It wasn’t an error from the station. I could be remembering wrong though, since I can’t find a source for that.

On a side note: The language of the subtitles also seems weird if this happened in Iceland. Wouldn’t they be in Icelandic?

Oddly, it was much like playing Dark Side of the Moon alongside The Wizard of Oz. Everything was in sync and made sense.
