    8h sleep

2h in morning before work to cuddle cat, eat, do whatever, cuddle cat some more.

10h at work/going to/from work and getting ready for work. I cycle to work so this also covers plenty of exercise.

4h in the evening before bed, usually dinner is done within an hour and during that time I can do a few other things as well.

I do most of my shopping in my work lunch breaks, serious question actually wtf can I do with an hour each day lunch break? Its so long and boring, not like I need to go shopping daily. Sometimes walk in the park but its fairly small and no benches to sit on.

Take up crab fishing in my lunch breaks and fill the work fridge with live crabs for my dinner could be an amusing option to get a new office rule implemented because of me.

Something I learned from cycling: When you put effort into using it, the morning is this mysterious beast of free time. We often get used to waking up, doing two-three things, and then it’s noon.

If you consciously sleep early, wake up early, and maybe plan to go somewhere as soon as you’re up, you can be back home planning to shower at your normal time, practically seeing your half asleep self doomscrolling in your bed from a prior day. You could even put a whole gaming session before your workday, if your job starts late enough.

I lowkey hate people like this . You can say “I’m so tired I did 15 hour shift today” and they’ll say “that’s nothing I did a 24 hour shift and still haven’t slept”. I didn’t ask???

I think the text should be changed to like

    • I only got 4 hours of sleep
    • haha I only got 1

To better capture the weird superiority aspect that people have over their suffering in response to other people’s complaints. As written, it reads more like someone making a joke about not getting much sleep and then someone responding (not in a joking way) that they got less.

I remember when I got literally 1h of sleep then had to do my 12h work shift, it was real shit, I don’t wish it to happen to anyone.

If I’m telling you I got 4 hours of sleep, it’s not pride. It’s a warning.

When you get to 1 hour that’s when you start telling chatgpt 3.5 to post about how sigma grindmaxcore you are on LinkedIn.

Take heart. I averaged about 4.5 hours a day for 3 years running on third shift. I’ve since changed back to first and have been at almost 7 for over a year. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

Short term and long term are ill defined subjective entities, if my short term is long term enough I win.

It frustrates me that people in this thread complain about time problems but won’t duscuss the obvious solution:

Tossing turds towards terrible time tyrants till they turn 9-to-5s to 10-to-4s

Do you work from home and have someone else do your chores? Otherwise days on must be brutal— only 1 hour of free time a day I would guess.

My girl and I both do chores but I also run a small farm as a hobby lol. Its a 28 day rotational schedule so in the 28 I have 14 off, 7 of those 14 are in a row. Major things that need doing happen during my week off every month. My commute is 45 minutes, my days on are mostly just work, farm chores, house chores and sleep. The 5-5 also swaps between AM and PM throughout the 28. Shakes out to 168 hours a month. Getting 8 hours is about discipline more than anything. Thats also why I say/view it as 8 of every 24 not 8 a “night”. I will admit I am a fucking creature lmao.

Makes me think of how I recently read Ishmael and it literally changed my life. I understand now. I am ape. Do as ape do.

There’s like, a lot more than that, but that was my biggest takeaway (which would probably make the author very sad given what the book was actually about)

I come from a taker culture. I’m doing my best to unlearn and be a leaver. It starts (to me) with the recognition that the way I have been living is a way uncooperative with nature, and incompatible with sustainability. I’ve been growing more spiritual, not to pacify myself but to take time to give thanks to the world for what it has given me. I drive less than I used to, opting to cycle or walk most of the time.

I think it’s safe to say I’m still a taker (I mean hell I live on stolen Diné land), but I’m doing my best to learn to not be. As soon as I can, I plan to leave this place, it can’t sustain a population like this and I can’t in good conscience contribute to it’s destruction.
