Tesseract was an alternative frontend instances could host. Despite having configuration options for filtering or the lack thereof, Tesseract would silently both download and enforce a custom filter; this hidden filter could not be overridden by any custom configuration. The hidden filter included regex to block keywords, users, and instances, showing a generic error about anything filtered as being “incompatible with Tesseract”.

My understanding is that the list is for having political opinions the guy who runs the project doesnt like (or just doing anything that displeases him I guess), moreso than whether you use lemmy or piefed
The project is for a front end, similar to photon, so just a different web interface that an instance maintainer can use as the ui for their lemmy or piefed instance
(Sorry if I’m explaining stuff you already know, I can’t tell if I’m dumb and misunderstanding you, or if you misunderstood something about the situation, and finding the dropped thread in online communication is hard so I’m just trying to explain what I know in case it makes it more clear where the breakdown is. Because if not what was he expecting? It was obvious people will find out and just stop using it. Not a specific group of users will stop using it but everyone. So what’s the point?
Edit: So this project was abandoned about a year ago. Looks like the creator had some issues. Why are people still using dead project? How was it discovered just now?
It was last updated 2 weeks ago, dev deleted project within last 24 hours due to this backlash.

It was forked yesterday by db0 (to strip the censorship) here and you can see the commits made by the original dev 2 weeks ago.
