Okay in insight, I didn’t pick a good example. Let me try again
You wouldn’t (or at least shouldn’t) make fun of a gym-bro starting to take anabolic steroids to look more buff.
That person is suffering from body dysmorphia. Modern beauty standards can push people to extreme or sometimes dangerous treatment. See how the situation is similar to a woman feeling she needs to do facial surgery and take weight-losing drugs, to fit into an impossible beauty standard?
Neither of those situations are good nor should be made fun of. Agree?
But then we had several posts making fun of women in that situation, and someone rightfully called out the blatant sexism.
Well humor is subjective, but beyond how I feel personally, uhhh yeah people do it all the time and it never gets called out as body shaming or any such thing, nobody cares. Bald, fat, ugly, small dick, all are fair game, especially if you have at least one other undesirable trait. Andrew Tate is balding, Trump is fat and has a little dick, anyone who has a large vehicle also has a small dick, anyone who owns guns has a small dick, the British have a small dick, etc, it’s everywhere and everyone else seems to love it.
Excuse me but Reddit sexism would be calling women whores, threatening to rape them and then telling them to kill themselves. This is not even close to 2012 reddit sexism.
Fair. I’m glad you edited this comment. Originally you claimed I invented Reddit sexism. Glad to see this change. Someone else said this.
I’ll revise what I said. Maybe 2015 Reddit is more accurate. That’s when the me too movement was kicking off.
A lot of men did a stupid thing where they weirdly reacted to the movement where they said:
“I don’t know what’s allowed any more. Woe is I. I guess I just won’t talk to women in the office any more.”
What you said about jokes with women is very similar to this. “Someone said Lemmy has a sexism problem. I guess you can’t make jokes involving women any more”
Lemmy can be a better place. We can make it that way together.
I have a line for what I consider to be sexist. This is no where near it. Joking about women drawing on eyebrows or attractive women wanting plastic surgery is no where near sexist. I could be nice but sometimes you just got to take the piss out of dumb comments.
If you want to fight that crusade good luck to you because it will be an uphill battle. The line for what is acceptable has regressed significantly.
Lemmy has a sexism problem, frequently. It needs to get called out more.
women are half the world are you asking us to exclude them all jokes and comedy? that would be rather sexist of you
There’s ways to be funny without punching down.
Lemmy does have a sexism problem. It’s pervasive.
Would it be funny making a joke about some random guy being fat and ugly?
This literally happens all the time and no one complains about it because “man bad”

You’re absolutely right, joking about women is to far.
Classic 2012 Reddit response. Lemmy has a sexism problem and it shows.
You remind me of the ”I’ll never talk to women in the office again” people during the me too movement.
You are mistaken I would never say anything negative about women (unless you’re a women then you’re correct and I am sorry)
😂 Imagine doubling down on 2012 Reddit sexism.

You are hallucinating I never edited my comment.

You are right. Someone else said that. My bad. I guess I would ask you to consider the targets of the jokes, see where they say the line is.
Imagine inventing it
