I’ll revise what I said. Maybe 2015 Reddit is more accurate. That’s when the me too movement was kicking off.
A lot of men did a stupid thing where they weirdly reacted to the movement where they said:
“I don’t know what’s allowed any more. Woe is I. I guess I just won’t talk to women in the office any more.”
What you said about jokes with women is very similar to this. “Someone said Lemmy has a sexism problem. I guess you can’t make jokes involving women any more”
Lemmy can be a better place. We can make it that way together.
I have a line for what I consider to be sexist. This is no where near it. Joking about women drawing on eyebrows or attractive women wanting plastic surgery is no where near sexist. I could be nice but sometimes you just got to take the piss out of dumb comments.
If you want to fight that crusade good luck to you because it will be an uphill battle. The line for what is acceptable has regressed significantly.
Its impossible to “ask women” they arent a monolith I would never get anywhere. I have my lived experience and joke with women every day. I have crossed the line enough to get a sense of where it is with the people I interact with. If you’re trying to reign harmless jokes like these memes then you’re fighting a hard fight. The line for whats acceptable online is very blurry.
Idk maybe people need to start making some more women focused memes to get a feel for where the line is on c/memes. Here is one i made off the dome.
