Yeah but cassettes were still around. Unless you had mini CDs, cassettes were the way to go if you wanted music in your pocket.

I still gave my trusty cassette player from back then. Still works great, and sound is quite good for something that old.

Well, it has some features you don’t see anymore on “modern” cassettes players (DTS, Dolby, things like that), all in a miniaturized and portable case.

Yeah but they skipped like fuckin crazy if you breathed on em wrong unless you shelled out extra for one with skip protection. Haven’t thought about skipping CDs in twenty years.

The original Cassette Beasts was set in a land outside of space and time with many people coming from the modern days, sci-fi futures, or even medieval fairytales

That I don’t remember getting until about 06. But the coolest thing about the one I got, it had two parts. The first part was the main body where you put your headphones jack. The second part connected to the first with a standard USB port, and that was where the flash storage was. So it was basically a bog standard USB drive, you plug it into your computer, load MP3s on it, and plug it back into the player. If a whole 64 MEGABYTES wasn’t enough for you, you could just carry multiple sticks. Genius design, wish I still had that thing.

I found my old Sony Walkman a year or so ago, lurking in a box in my mum’s garage. It was one of the ones that had a radio built in too, loved that thing way back.

I’m excited for Cassette Beasts 2002, enjoyed the hell out of the first. There is some endgame, DLC, and achievements still for me to hunt before seeing the ending cut scene.

Can’t wait to see where the story is going to go next.

One of my personal favorite. I loved the first game, but felt it was a bit too… Small.
I mean, you can go from one end of the map to the opposite one in barely more than a few minutes, without even using fast travel…

I hope 2k2 will be a lot bigger.

I personally didn’t feel any issue with the game being small. Besides, a bonus of fast travel not being necessary is that it’s not necessary! I’m assuming that in the JRPG tradition, it’s more about a “large” story than a large playable area.

I kinda agree, but the fact it was so tightly packed made it difficult to create visual variety, and ends up becoming a bit repetitive. Forest, forest, more forests. I’d had liked to see a desert, maybe some crystal cave, mesas, etc.

That partly why I look forward to 2k2, ot seem way more open.

Dunno how I feel about the voice acting but I loved the first game and even from the trailer I can tell this one is going to be good too.
