  • definitely industrial-scale automation systems. Mostly PLCs, but also SCADA for monitoring. Lots of 20-30 year-old tech. Those networks have no reason to be connected to the internet.

You’re talking a massive nation with more systems like this than you could ever imagine. Probably more than all of Europe combined.

They are in every state of repair and disrepair that you could imagine, and many have been receiving government funding for at least at decade now (def more, but I can only speak to the last ten years or so) to replace these systems, including SCADA and PLCs.

So you have a patchwork of countless systems, in every level of tech modernity that you can imagine.

The newer systems usually have an internal network of sorts, and they might have a portal for someone outside the network to log in to remotely monitor.

The problem seems to be that these idiots kept the default credentials, etc.

But to answer you’re question, they’re not all 20-30 years old, and network connectivity (without being open to the outside internet, obviously), is a very useful feature when replacing those old systems with newer ones.

    That’s why.

  • Once it clicks, it’s like riding a bike. Started a second playthrough a year after beating it, and I beat Genichiro first try.

    Peak game design.

Best From Software game in terms of movement and exploration. Best From game in terms of plot and presentation of that plot (it’s not completely opaque). Equal to Bloodborne in terms of best setting and visual style by From.

Not only the best combat in any From game, but the best combat in any third person game, period imo. It’s perfect… When you get into a flow state, it’s like a rhythm game. And the feeling you get when you finally get the timing right and beat a boss, is second to none.

Because you know that it was all you. No cheese builds, no OP weapons. You get better because you get better. You have to, it’s the only way to progress in to game. And it makes every single win feel like a legitimate accomplishment.

I’d love to see a sequel

  • the CIA was dumping LSD all over the country

    No they weren’t.

They were doing weird ass experiments, sure, but they weren’t just dumping it everywhere, they were trying to do targeted experiments (didn’t work lol)

It was people first in the medical community sharing it with friends, then, people like Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters who brought it to the general public.

Then from that you had the Grateful Dead, and a few people who followed them (including one guy responsible for like 80% of the LSD on the planet at the time before his arrest).

Timothy Leary wasn’t distributing it, to my knowledge, but he certainly popularized it.

The CIA may have thought, initially, that they’d want to dump it all over the country, but they realized very quickly that was a very bad idea and they pivoted to trying to prevent that.

It’s basically just a front end. Like a stylesheet. It should do nothing but display the existing data in certain ways.

At least that’s what they’re supposed to be. This person decided to force their own views on everyone who uses it without disclosing that it’s doing that.
