I absolutely hate that punk and screamo is the default “music” for anarchist celebrations/organizations.

Punk, diy, mutual aid are great and powerful philosophies of community togetherness… But they just don’t make/choose good music. It’s a real sore point for me, as these events are about bringing people together… And not about blasting them away.

I think economics play a factor: access to quality instruments, production equipment, traditional training. The monied music ecosystem with all these resources at it’s disposal doesn’t quickly hand them out to people making art without an overwhelming passion for monetizing it.

but, additionally, I think your take might just be based on your subjective taste. I was introduced to anarchist politics by punk music, not pushed away by it. There’s probably a feedback loop of people having similar experiences and going on to continue to express anarchist thinking through the art form and community that introduced it to them.

The obvious solution is you have to bear the responsibility of ushering in a new anarchist subculture by actually producing good music for us to listen to. Maybe we’ve all just been waiting for you to hit the scene
