The same reason I jizz in all the urine cups for drug tests at my job. There’s no way the administration would fire all of us and leave the students high and dry, which is why I believe I’ve never been fired from my job as a middle school janitor despite my addiction to roofie-ing myself on a nightly basis, cuz I got my DNA all up in their urine, but really their urine was in my DNA. A fuck, I got my coat wet. The shit I do for my country.

licks fingers you need to keep your fingers moist when packaging up these little swaps, wouldn’t want them getting contaminated from a drop on the floor!

The resolution was that the DNA didn’t belong to anyone involved in any of the crimes. It belonged to a woman who worked at the factory that made the contaminated swabs.

Do not talk to me about Dawkinsian sense, I was there where it got Elevated. /meme

Doesn’t matter if it’s a Wikipedia screenshot, it’s a Wikipedia screenshot documenting an ancient meme. Like how the pic above is a widely propagated meme about a video game scene that actually refers to Dawkinsian stuff. Geddit?

A meme is a joke told in the form of a funny picture on the internet. This screenshot from Wikipedia may not be a typical meme, but it does have the structure of a joke, including a punch line.

Sure - a meme is a unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another, often propagating throughout a community and frequently subject to a form of cultural evolution.

I know what Dawkins wrote but that definition is so all-encompassing to be unhelpful outside a specific area of discussion which is why in everyday parlance it’s not used.

True. Alrighty, I’ll accept that in the very original Dawkinsian sense, this can be considered a meme, if you squint. I still think it goes against the spirit of the community because the context is the internet in which the word means something else.

While I sympathize with your frustration, this is the same question we were asking at the fin de ciecle over Duchamp’s Fontaine over “is this art?” - and has been repeated in “what is theatre/fiction?” “Is borat fiction?” “Is an advertisement a movie?” “Are documentaries neccessarily non fiction?” which leads you all the way back to epistemology, the Socratic method, and a state of aporia.

The only reasonable conclusion is “if anyone says it’s a meme it’s a meme”

I don’t think I agree. I’d define an “internet meme” as an inside joke (in the very broadest of senses) shared on the internet. There needs to be a certain number of people who agree that it’s funny and worth repeating and propagating for it to qualify. Like the original idea definition of a “meme”, really, where an idea only becomes a cultural unit once it leaps from one mind to another. Also, Milhouse is not a meme.

I mean per my previous comment: define “inside” “joke” “shared” “internet” “certain number” “agree” “one mind” “another mind”…

I could email myself the letter “e” and then say “this is funny” to myself and it would meet this definition

      I hadn’t heard of those…

What a world we live in. Neo-Nazis actually roamed the streets in the Netherlands against during an extreme-right protest, last weekend…

I’m listening, but there’s a deafening sound of a little lady standing by a swab production line, occasionally giving in to her intrusive thoughts of randomly snatching a swab, licking it, feeling a tiny shiver up her spine, giggling briefly, and putting it back. Her heart fluttering each time she dreamt of her next lick.
