Yeah, let’s just unleash completely unreliable tech to punish people for shit that the city isn’t even willing to fund enforcement of!
The station caught up with local real estate broker Ty Williams, who got a courtesy notice for “chimney paint” on a house he owned after one of these cameras came by. He shared a photo of the chimney, and it’s, like, just a regular chimney with some slight discoloration from age.
Human review isn’t doing shit to avoid the inherent problem with the system. This is just the new version of red light cameras, which are also unreliable and incentivize punitive fines.
Red light cameras are fine. If the person as an issue with the official city complaint they can take the city to court.
As for the real estate agent they are likely full of shit given the article didnt post their photo. Plus ive seen what they try and claim as damage they have no trust.
Thats the same logic when minorities are unfairly bothered by cops. A lot of people dont have the resources to fight the system especially for minor fines. But it is unfair for them to lose time and money fighting something that they shouldnt have been charged. Its the opposite of how an effective justice system works.
By that logic dont enforce any laws because some enforcement might be grey and people dont have the resources to make their case.
Thats dumb this is a non issue. You are suggesting we throw out the entire process improvement because it might be wrong and a council worker might not check before issuing the notice then the home owner might be unable to respond to the violation notices.
