Today’s game is Assassin’s Creed. The first one Specifically. I have played and enjoyed most of the Assassin’s Creed games. Specifically: 3, Black Flag, Rogue, Unity, Syndicate, Origins, Valhalla, and Shadows. With Black Flag Resynced on the horizon, I would be lying if i said i wasn’t hyped about it having grown up with the franchise the way i have. I’m hoping to wait until launch to hear about it to even consider it (or even better acquire it through other means), as i’d love to give it a try and form my own opinion on it, regardless of my own personal bias.

Anyways, so i decided to play the First Game, which i have never beaten. I thought if i sink myself into it so maybe i can quell any sort of desire for the Black Flag Remake, at least until i can find out whether it’s good. Hopefully though it sates all desire so i don’t want to play it. Then again, i’m sure my local library will get it, i can for sure borrow a copy from there.

I mean, my major complaint with Shadows was the story being way too long. Black Flag has an amazing story in my opinion. I don’t know how they could fuck it up, so with trust i could believe it will be good, but Ubisoft does not have my trust in this matter.

Anyways, about the game. It looks surprisingly good. Like, the models are a bit eh. And i noticed some NPCs almost look like they’re bobbing their head like a chicken. But lighting and texture wise it looks fine. I imagine some of it is carried by having maxed out graphic options. But still.

I appreciate the difference between this too and the modern formula. It’s unique to see how the open world is a little less open compared to the sequels. Having gotten countless games with the open world formula it’s nice to experience it.

It’s also interesting seeing how different the Brotherhood is here. They feel far less secret compared to normal. I mean, they have a fucking castle adorned with their symbol. Not exactly the pinnacle of secrecy. Then again, back in ages like that i imagine word traveled a lot less fast, so it’d be harder to find somewhere like that. Especially with it supposedly being in the mountains.

Also, it cracks me up that the save icon resembles a SIM card. For some reason it’s funny to me.

Anyways, i wanted to play this and explore a something from my childhood i never really touched. I’ve also had a desire recently to replay L.A. Noire too so if that shows up and this doesn’t assume it replaced it.

I’m one of the people who actually liked the modern day segments of the game(s), tying real world elements into the story in such interesting ways. The second game is probably my favorite, where you find these traces of the pieces of Eden in order to figure out what the real hidden plotline is.

    Tap for spoiler

The fact that there was an entire civilization before the humans, and that humanity was only a slave race. The mystery of being talked to as if we’re Desmond rather than Altaïr/Ezio is also a great thrill!

The parkour has improved in many ways, but no AC game has quite captured the vibes of the first.

The Parkour is kind of jarring. Maybe I’m just not used to it because I’m more used to the Unity parkour but it feels slower in a way.

The vibe is really interesting. I like the later games vibes too, so i can’t say it’s a “this is better” situation for me. Just different in a “just as good” way

The parkour in the OG is definitely slower than Unity. The parkour engine or mechanics, whatever you want to say, came a long way and I think in general only really improved. Pretty much everything else for me got worse with each new release, though.

This series has changed so much from what it first was. I do kinda like the series as a whole, but the games felt held back by never giving us a proper modern day storyline to follow. Everything was either in the Animus or taken care of offscreen.

I liked 4’s Modern Section. But I hate that nothing came of it. It sucks they stopped the modern day stuff mostly with Unity. I really liked it

Everything after brotherhood has been a steady decline. Black flag was fun but only the parts that were pirate roleplay and not the actual assassins creed parts. I cant even remotely tolerate the most recent ones

The last one i fully cared about was Syndicate. Origins was just… bland to me, i refused to touch Odyssey because i don’t really care for ancient Greece aesthetic or mythos which is what it looked to be catering too, Valhalla was interesting but way too long and wasn’t really an AC game (at least as i wanted), and Shadows i liked the gameplay and opening/ending but the middle game essentially shit the bed because it was too ungodly long.

I’ve played 3 AC games and the first is still my favorite. Story gripped me more than the others.
