Fun fact for people in europe: summer temperatures will probably only be affected by a few degrees celsius by the gulf stream collapsing and its actually only the winters that will get extremely cold. By extremely cold i mean like 15c for some places. So if you have -10 at winter now, when youre gonna be retired its gonna be -25.

While this data is presented by a company selling apartments across the globe and the text is written to explain how much travel destinations change over the coming decades, the data in it gives a clear overview of changes in 85 different cities. Anyone living in any of those 85 cities can use it to see how fucked you might be in the near and not so near future: https://www.nestpick.com/2050-climate-change-city-index/

Little spoiler: you’ll be at least a little fucked no matter where you live.

You people should really smile more.

… this all is immensely funny, watching an entire species ecocide itself, and most of the rest of the planet, ultimately because we are too … cowardly, lazy, neurotic, greedy, take your pick, to do what would need to be done to stop it.

    But that’s the joke!

    The human condition.

    That is the joke.

… why are we so serious?

What is all that worry and concern gonna accomplish?

Do you have an actual thing you could do, to make things better in some way, for yourself, for others?

If no: There’s nothing you can do, worrying is pointless.

If yes: Just do that then.

Don’t be deluded that you’re guaranteed, or even likely to be sucessful. That is arrogance. But there is value in trying to do the right thing, even when it seems hopeless.

Don’t worry about what is unavoidable… it will always get you, eventually. The anticipation only makes it worse, and, paradoxically… makes it more inevitable, by wasting your energy that could be spent on doing instead be spent on worrying.

I understand, sometimes there are very natural reasons for concern, valid reasons, reasons that a clowny screed will likely not affect.

But the world seems awash in hopelessness and worry these days.

Succumbing totally to that… will make things worse. Ideally, all of that energy could be spent either actually trying to do something that is in some way useful… or at least not be expended on stressing yourself into an early grave.

I’m not really trying to demand people be a certain way, I’m just trying to echo the fatalism, but reorient it in a way that it might … give people permission, so to speak, to try to exist in, think from a less taxing perspective.

One must imagine Sisyphus laughing hysterically, at least sometimes, for no immediately apparent reason.

Reminds me of very wise words I need to remember more often:

27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?"

34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

—Jesus of Nazareth, Matthew 6, verses 27 and 34

verses 25-31 for context and entirety.

25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one [j]cubit to his [k]stature?

28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not [l]arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Edit: Lol at the expected down votes because fAiTh BaD. Would probably get some updoots if it was a pop culture reference saying the same thing. 😂

Or we’ll be off a new peak and hear “it’s the coolest year in a decade, so climate change isn’t happening” to explain why anything sub 100⁰ is good enough.

Dunno. But it won’t be pretty. Unless it involves the rich subsidizing the wellbeing of the bottom 99%. In other words, it definitely won’t be pretty…

Not slightly. We’re already having problems with food and water in even “first world” countries… Just little hiccups before a true systematic failure

The disasters will get worse and way more common, but those aren’t where the true horrors will be. It’ll be the disease, conflict, and mass starvation

We could certainly overcome it. Humans are very adaptable… But it’s already starting, and we aren’t doing anything. We can’t even organize enough to agree we should do anything at all to save ourselves

So things will get horrific. It could take billions of dead to figure out a new way to live at this rate. Every lesson will be learned though desperation. And then one day, we’d reach that new worse normal

But if we got our act together and started actually preparing, it wouldn’t be bad. Scary and hard, but we’d get hope back. We’d regain connection to each other, and be united against an outside enemy. We’d share a dream of bringing the green back. We

We could come together pretty quickly once we accepted the necessary sacrifice of the old ways of living… But each day it progresses and we do nothing. It’s depressing and terrifying, but the truth can’t be ignored anymore

Alright, well, I just thought the “6 years” thing sounded so specific is all. Why not 5, or 10. Something round. 😅 So I thought there was something specific happening in 6.

Idk, gotta ask OP. But six years ago was 2020, a round year, another “warmest year since recording” that seems kinda chill from today’s perspective. Though this is yet another made up explanation after the fact.

You’re welcome to your opinions. I mean yeah it’s definitely an idea and from a scientific mindset we can use it to make predictions and see if those predictions are accurate to see if the idea is accurately modeling reality or not. The amount of novel events seems doable to define and attempt a measurement so at least as a hypothesis I wouldn’t say it’s utterly unscientific.
