If you say it’s for AI you don’t look like a failing company that makes repeated bad business decisions and has burned all public goodwill while increasing spend on unquantified AI tokens.

AI augmenting human workers and making them faster or assisting in categorising or triaging work: great idea.

AI replacing human workers and doing the work itself with complete agency: terrible idea.

Everyone who has done this will learn it’s just a shitty intern running at sim city cheetah speed and you should give it the same trust and ability to fuck you as an intern.

Its becoming a cycle. Exec gets hype minded and tells their employees to fuck off. Gets big payout, and stock go up. Takes about a year for shit to really fall apart, with the realization that maybe AI can’t do everything. Sheepishly they start hiring again, but that knowledge is lost. Real recovery will be years.

America is being hollowed out with no plans to address its effects on the poor and working class, apart from cutting the social safety net. This is happening in a time when it’s been criminalized to be homeless in the US and, if you’re scooped up, you can be forced legally to perform prison labor.

I don’t understand anyone who is actively patriotic in this country.

US tech industry cut 123,653 jobs since January 2026, up 66% from last year during the same period — AI now the most cited reason excuse for cuts by US employers: report

Not sure why people live making this distinction. AI is genuinely convincing dumbasses who run these companies that workers are inferior and unneeded.

Call centers maybe. Actual tech companies? No.

AI is just another smoke screen. If AI was doing as much as they say, why would a company cut people rather than doing double the work it could do with the same work force?

Executives don’t get bonuses and rewards based purely on “profit”. While there is “profit share” in most companies, that is mostly for the peons. Compared to performance bonuses, stock options, and all the other rewards that require all sorts of accounting shenanigans, profit share is very minor. These types of rewards are mostly based upon meeting specific performance markers. Once those markers are met, they have no need to cut further. In fact, they’re fully aware that cuts will hurt next year’s ability to hit those markers. If they are at the point of doing job cuts in order to meet their bonuses, that means they’ve already turned every other dial and flipped every other switch that they can to push the numbers up.

Also, nobody wants to admit that the economy is spiralling into another great recession, especially not with a nutbag in the white house who will outright attack you and your company if you don’t tow the line and pretend everything is great.

There’s an irony to Zuckerberg’s and the rest of the oligarchs’ fevered delusions about AI, and it would be pithy if it weren’t so tedious:

They wanted to discard their need for other humans, and all they discarded was their own humanity.

The official jobs report came out, and job growth was way up! It was so good that they even revised March and April up! They even said that it was easy to get a job again! Isn’t that great! Vote for MAGA!

FUCK those treasonous pedophiles. Obviously after month after month of layoffs over AI, and more profits, jobs are trending down, and everybody knows it. Ask any college grad how easy it is to get a job that doesn’t require a name tag.

So of course they gamed the numbers, and Hey! Would you look at that! We found a bunch more jobs from the last few months, too! Mighty convenient.

You can’t believe ANYTHING that comes out of this MAGA government. Cheating is their brand, lying is their greatest tool. They will forge whatever reports they need to to support their lies. By November, they will have reports that say inflation is negative -10%, and 130% of Americans will have jobs paying above the median.

And we’ll have health care in two weeks.

When the bubble bursts there will be so many more. This MFr is so bad at his job, like multiple incredibly expensive disaster failures of projects for which anyone else would have been fired a long time ago. This is just the next in succession. And yet he owns majority stock, so can’t be fired. Capitalism is dumb.

US tech sector could easily shed double that number as long as it is middle managers and worthless PM types getting fired.

Hollowing out actual engineers, devs, and people who know how shit works in favor of “AI gains” and offshore outsourcing is like removing the engine from you car “for the weight savings”.
