I took my cat to the vet once in a cardboard box.

“Ohh you really should get a pet carrier.”

I have one. He prefers the box, who am I to judge.

A cat will naturally like a carrier if you only use it like a cardboard box. The problem is all the other stuff you do with the carrier, and especially if that’s the only time you use the carrier.

Yep, leave the cat carrier out where they they can get to it any time they want, maybe under a coffee table or something, just leave the door open. Toss some treats and/or toys in once in a while and eventually they will treat it just like any other box. If they are already stressed about the carrier, leave it out and then them feed them near it. Again, make sure the door is always open. Every day put the dish a little closer to the open door. Eventually put the food dish just inside the door so they can eat without actually going in. Then put it further in every day until they are going in the crate to eat. That has eventually worked with every cat I’ve tried it on.

Our current cats all love the carriers. I took some of my cats to the vet this week. When I got back home, I opened the door to let them out and one of them ran out of the carrier he was in and right into one of the others that had just been vacated by another cat.

I’m told if you take the top and/or door off, it’s a bit easier to acclimate them to it.

Problem with me is my cat doesn’t like to hide in general! He prefers being out in the open unless he is scared (uncommon).

I had to take my adult cat to the vet recently. Got the cat carrier out and the adolescent cat went right in. Too bad it was the wrong cat. The adult cat would rather die than go in the cat carrier.
