“When are you going to settle down and have some kids?”

“I’m 37, Sherle, you’re stupid for even asking. Now, if you don’t mind, I’m going to go get hammered at a metal show and probably accept drugs from a stranger in the bathroom.”

    Living live to the fullest?

    Suffering like them?

Who are? Where are you from?

In my universe it’s the opposite, boomers lived their lives to the fullest and the current generations are suffering, real bad.

The young generation looked at absent parents, companies restructurings that laid off their parents after decades of dedication and overtime with nothing to show for it but health problems and wonders why anybody would use that as an example to follow.

“I want my kids to have a better life than me”

Kids have a better life in their own way

    “Wait, not like that!”

    GenX chiming in here:

Man, do what the fuck makes you happy. I did. A lot of us did. I travelled. I gambled. I fucked. I drank, dosed, moshed…damn near died a few times. Sometimes I did all of the above all at once.

Now I’m old, gray, and swollen. Living a boring peaceful life. Got a lot of regrets but none of them involve passing on any of that shit.

So you Gen Z types, live it up. I’m planning on still being here when you get old, gray, and swollen. Come over and we’ll smoke a little weed, do lines of ibuprofen, and play Doom.

Fucking while moshing sounds logistically complicated, were you gambling with people about how long it would go on without anyone suffering a penile fracture?

Another Gen-X with a similar message, but also an apology for leaving you a god damn mess to be expected to live in. If I had been born when you were, I’d be pissed off too. If I had been born when you were and had the knowledge I do as a Gen-X, I’d be setting fires.

I’m almost 40 and still ride my shopping cart through the parking lot whenever it’s heavy enough to hold me. Life is too short to grow out of fun.

They look at you like that because they know, right now, you are young and feel invincible. And you practically are.

But they know that you won’t be forever. And they know that you are missing an opportunity to prepare for the second half of your life because you are living to the fullest now.

And they know that it’s your choice to make.

Maybe, but it’s more likely they are resentful for not doing the same and worried about who will pay for their retirement.

I really don’t find that to be the case. Maybe you just have a lot of assholes around you regardless of age.

Pretty much. That age old meme of money/time/energy is spot on, and when you have all the time and energy it sure does feel like the only time that matters is now.

But it’s only one short part of life. If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that I should have been an anesthesiologist. lol

On top of that, it’s also that “living life to the fullest” has changed over the years, and has different meanings even among members of the same generation.

There are a lot of people injecting doomerism right into their tear ducts lately who openly don’t have long term plans because they seriously believe we’re headed to total collapse and they’ll be dead.

And that older people are more likely to know people who lived “to the fullest” for whatever interpretation of that you have, and have seen what those people have had to deal with as they’ve got older.
