Ultranats should not be allowed to lay claim on wolf symbolism! Wolves are cool.

I’ve gotten comments about the various far right wolves and dogs organizations as if they defined all furries. They’re ruining it for the rest of the kin.

It isn’t the first time a subdemographic’s reputation extends inappropriately to the rest of the group.

kinda like seeing semana santa and beating up people for looking like klansmen? sure the similarity is there but it’s a high tier of being dumb as fuck. Who the fuck hasn’t heard of furries in this day and age?

Remember, it’s always okay to punch a Nazi! That’s the only education they understand.

      [insert Skeletor running away GIF]

      Until we meet again!

^But also remember, you first have to make sure they’re a Nazi, then the beating can commence^

Edit: looks like we found four Nazis, boys! Sick 'em!

(autocorrect really wanted to replace “sick” with “dick” but honestly, Nazis do not deserve to observe the majesty of my penis)

They were mistaken for a Nazi. Hence emphasizing the need to make sure they are actually Nazis.

My question is, did he mistake him for a nazi on the costume alone, or did the furry introduce himself as Aaron wolf (it says thats his furry name in small text at the bottom) and the greek guy misheard it as Aryan wolf?

It’s in the headline of the article; because he thought that he was associated with the ultranationalism Grey Wolves association. So purely because of the costume resembling an ultranationalist group, being a grey wolf.

It’s like punching a guy for wearing a white hooded costume around because they look like the KKK but really it was just a guy in costume for his favorite niche community, the pointy hood bakers or something. Not saying it isn’t stupid but if you dont know what furries are and have the association of that group in your head I can see it happening. It obviously shouldn’t, though.

Although I already disagree with the first part, this is where it gets pretty difficult in most cases unless somebody unmistakeably calls themselves a Nazi.

Most Nazis can’t help but tell you about themselves. All you have to do is talk to them for 15 seconds.

There are Nazi furries but they’re ostracized from the rest of the community and banned from most cons/gatherings that aren’t run by them.

They’re only well-known because we don’t like them, and their inflammatory stuff goes viral in our spaces, and sometimes they hit escape velocity, getting exposed to the wider internet.

In reality like 85-90% of furs are left-wing to various degrees, and LGBTQ.

“What is truth?” The only thing that matters in terms of establishing a group’s (very much permanent) reputation is what percolates to the general cultural zeitgeist of people who don’t know what the word hypertext means. When the insular furry communities of the Y2K era kicked out the weird freaks who were actively hostile to the ideas of kink consent, consent in general, and non-white people continuing to draw breath, they descended on 4chan and SomethingAwful and various other forums and pretty much instantly solidified the unsuspecting public’s idea of furries as being creepy Nazis. It’s not fair, but you only get one shot at establishing an eternal reputation and it’s more or less completely out of your control.

i love how you bring up sites where trolls and bigots congregate to make memes and spread misinformation to marginalize communities as a valid source.

it’s like saying “i read on the news about so and so” and then citing some roadside graffiti.

“This is what I any many others observed” ≠ “These are the values I hold”

Be attentive to what you read instead of selectively interpreting it to match your emotional reaction to the general idea.

I know many a furry. Most of them are perfectly average people who happen to have a “hobby” on the side (putting the word hobby in quotes as it is more of a lifestyle/identity, but these people don’t make being a furry their entire identity), some of them are sexual deviants/freaks (nothing wrong with that mind you!), and a handful few are quite extreme when it comes to the topic…

You know what none of them are? Hateful, bigoted, fascists, or Nazis.

And honestly, I’d much sooner be friends with a wholesome dude who happens to enjoy getting fisted on stage by a dozen guys every weekend than someone who tries to commit a dozen hate crimes every weekend…

Sure, so they aren’t the lunatics shitposting all day. I made another comment expanding on it but in brief, whether it’s fair or not (and it’s not), the kind of furries most people came across during the reputation-forming years were the extremely strident ones who actively enjoyed making people hate them, and it stuck.
