Newbie here who is in Reddit jail, I got banned for posting something that wasn’t into Reddit’s filters (It was an NSFW meme but it wasn’t offensive) My account literally got sniped by a bot the second I posted the meme, I’m glad there’s neither here. I’ll wait 100 days until my IP gets unblocked I guess and then move there for now this is my new home.

I had an account with almost 100k karma and I posted good stuff I had friends I talked to, Thanks reddit for having bullshit filters and for having a nonsense repeal system that doesn’t work.

I was on Reddit for 12 years, with nearly a million Karma, but they permabanned me in the February bloodbath for posting an opinion I’d posted many times without a warning of any kind.

I’ve never heard of a 100 days ban, that’s new. I suspect they’re hoping you’ll forget about Reddit and go away, but if you go back, my prediction is that now that you are on their radar, they’ll target you, and find excuses to keep suspending you until they feel justified in permabanning you.

Have you been told there’s a 100 day cool down? I was told my account was banned (with zero info/explanation) forever and even when I use VPNs I get Shadow banned until I open up Reddit without a VPN so I assume it’s really forever

Is the 100 days cooldown a thing? I just recently deleted my shadow banned 10 years account because I’m pretty sure it’s done and dusted once you get the shadow ban. Especially as you don’t even know what you are banned for.

Why not just move here permanently and kill your Reddit since they clearly demonstrated they don’t want you there?

I mean, I wasn’t ever banned from Reddit, but I left on my own before that would’ve inevitably happened since I had some comments sniped for BS before they started ramping up the censorship there, and I don’t plan on ever going back.

Because reddit had more niche communities that I was into and it’s way more populated which is to be expected, but I also love how open this website seems so far, my main gripe with Reddit is that if you are a new account you are pretty much fucked, I’m not against moderation but Reddit overdoes it.

There are some subreddits that I miss but there’s also usually a lot less bullshit here. The giant “fuck you” to third party app developers was the last straw for me. I wasn’t even in that group but that pretty much told me where reddit was heading and I wasn’t willing to go along with it. But, there’s probably quite a few people here who still use Reddit. Either way, welcome!

I’m not against it, It’s just I used reddit for everything regarding news and I overral liked engaging with posts but it’s always like I had this fear that if I say something wrong I would get banned by a moderator or something.

Also the permament ban thing is really harsh for me it should exist for posting REALLY FUCKED UP stuff, not because you posted something and a bot happened to snipe it.

Your real concern should be that Spez gets to censor what you’re reading in a real way.

Not only does he get to remove stuff that counters his narrative, he also can allow certain types of narratives to flood the site.

Editorial control is huge, and giving that to Spez seems insane to me. That, along with Facebook, 4chan, and every other social media is certainly how we got a shitty president who was basically nobody relevant until 2015.

                I can’t stress this enough.

Before the api changes killed transparency tools, you could look at the censorship that reddit was doing. Literally 97% of posts that reached the front page were deleted.

There isn’t enough of a population to get a good small niche community going. Also it can be difficult to find the community in the first place. The fight stick community on Reddit is very active. On Lemmy it has been around for a while and remains completely dead.

I feel like we’re slowly growing here, lots of very rich communities have been built now.

But yes, my city and hobby communities are still a ghost town. We don’t have critical mass on lots of stuff yet.

Welcome. If your all page seems stale, I suggest you switch to different sort types. Active is the least active, but worth checking. Hot is great. If I still want content, I’ll go to 1 hour, 6 hour and scaled.

Worth noting there are descriptions here: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/users/03-votes-and-ranking.html

But basically Hot is highest score (upvotes minus downvotes) with a decay based on how old the post is (down to 0 after I think 2 days)

Active is the same thing but with the decay based on when the last comment was posted rather than the post itself (use to find conversations).

Top is just the highest score (upvoted minus downvotes) only counting the votes in the period you select (hour, 6 joura, day, etc).

It had nudity so I’ll avoid posting it here because I still like to follow the rules.

The point being it was a perfectly legal meme which got sniped by a bot and I didn’t even bother appealing the ban because I know it would probably get blocked without even them looking at it, and now I don’t want to sign in to my account with my new IP because it would probably reset the days.

I know some people like to be sctrictly anti-moderation and anti-rules because they like to post offensive or innapropriate stuff, I think there SHOULD be moderation, It’s just Reddit’s moderation is so forced

I mean, you are already on the only instance dedicated to porn, if they have a comm for nsfw/xxx memes, you could post it there.

We have communities for that if it’s too nude: [email protected] But general meme communities also allow nsfw posts.

You don’t have to self censor yourself, post whatever you want, just find the fitting comunity

I see, I mean I’m finding this community to be more chill like I don’t have to hide myself with reddit I felt like I had to hide my profile because I was into NSFW stuff.

That was at least one good thing with reddit you could hide your profile history because of stalkers or too judgy people.

You can’t hide here anything, everything you do is public. Your instance’s admin can even see your pms.

You can have a lot of profiles, most apps allow quickly switching between them, so while you cannot hide your history you can separate it so stalkers can hardly find anything about you.
