I solved this problem by eating the same three meals that I make myself every day.

The first step was recognizing that food is not entertainment, so as long as it meets my nutritional needs, it doesn’t need to vary. Boredom doesn’t enter into it, because it’s not entertainment, the same way I don’t get bored with taking a shower or getting dressed, or any of the other things I do in the course of the day. Most things we do are not entertainment, and when I made eating one of them, that solved many issues for me.

I both envy and pity your ability to do this at the same time. Food is such a large part of life and culture. To not experience the veritable cornucopia of flavours and textures out there feel like such a missed opportunity to me.

I may be a foody applying their slanted perspective at this, but there’s a reason why we say the “variety is the spice of life”. The saying works both ways.

It will never cease to amaze me how you can ask some people, “what do you want for lunch?” And their answer 90% of the time is, “I don’t know, I haven’t thought about it.”

You eat three times a day. Every single day. Your whole. Entire. Life. Every single day, I wake up and make a plan that revolves around my three meals. The idea of not doing that makes about as much sense to me as wiping before you poop.

Every single day, I wake up and make a plan that revolves around my three meals.

That is absolutely crazy to me. Unless it’s a special occasion or I’m planning to cook a specific meal that requires shopping or prep, I don’t even think about it until I start to get hungry. How would I know what I’ll be hungry for?

This borders on mental illness, IMO. Focused on food to a bit of an unhealthy degree.

I just eat what I feel like eating in that moment. Though I don’t keep a large stock of anything other than noodles and cereal so anything else I usually plan to eat the day I buy it (or sometimes for the day after). I also eat at different times depending on when I get hungry. Eating just isn’t a very planned activity for me.

I dont know how ill be feeling before every meal. What if i planned on making pot pie for dinner, but came home and was hungry right then and didnt want to wait or put in the effort for pot pie?

Or what if i packed left over chicken in my lunch the night before and turns out by the time lunch rolls around, i wanted a burrito?

Or what if people dont have an appetite due to their medication and can literally forget to eat because their body never told them they needed nutrients?
