To be honest, I think the Amish might be on to something. If we could create a sect that stopped at '90s tech, I’d be tempted to convert.
Cory Doctorow explained in one of his articles that the Amish don’t avoid technology indiscriminately, they weigh the harm against the use. His example was that it’s bad when electronic communication replaces face-to-face contact, but it’s no good either if you can’t contact a vet when your cow falls ill.
I was like “wow what a reasoned take, I like cory doctorow for basically everything he says”. Then I read your username and almost did a spit take. Lol
The only phone you get is a landline, a plastic Garfield whose eye open when you pick up the handset. So it is written, so shall it be.
…which is fine, until the ninjers start calling in death threats on your Garfield phone.
It could be a mobile. But it only makes calls and it costs 10 cents a minute to the caller.
The original StarTac was 90s, no?
One week of no porn and you’d come crawling back.
Back in the ‘90’s if you go for a walk in a wooded area in the park you could find pornographic magazines with half the pages glued together.
I experienced that one multiple occasions.
VHS Tapes :)
You… you think that wasn’t around back then?
In the 90s you just waited longer for one pic.

Not to mention magazines found in the forrest.
Scribble vision, baby.
You don’t think people would instead, you know, start hooking up instead?
Not the people that use Lemmy, I can tell you that much.
I think you misunderstand the point of porn entirely.
Mennonites wild be the closest but that entirely depends on the community.
I’m proud to say I don’t know who that is… 😉
Sure you don’t…
