What did yall end up settling on?
I bought a secondhand Steam Deck and was convinced by using it docked with kbm that Linux is ready to be my one and only.
From there, my 2015 laptop moved from Windows 10 to PopOS -> Cinnamon Mint -> CachyOS -> Cinnamon Mint. I plan to build a desktop sometime between now and the release of PlayStation 6, and I’ll probably go with CachyOS for that. I would just buy a Steam Machine, but I can’t justify the price vs performance when I don’t really care about console comforts like CEC. I’d rather pay the cost of the higher Steam Machine to get PS6 level performance.
My wife moved her laptop from Windows 10 to Cinnamon Mint. She has to have a Windows partition for proctored exam spyware for online classes, but she’s now only using Windows for that one thing. She’s much more comfortable with Mint.
Ubuntu -> Mint -> Arch -> NixOS
Ubuntu really drove me away for some time. Only when I got to Mint, I felt that Linux could be a daily driver. Arch made me strangely reinstall it every few days. Not by not working but by having the feeling of dirtying the machine on use.
NixOS is really what I want to use the rest of my life. Very complicated on first use but definitly worth it (for me).
Redhat > fedora > Debian > Ubuntu > mint > fedora. Been there for years now.
Today I’m using Chimera, but KaOS, Arix or perhaps some unholy install of Alpine with DINIT are tempting me. Seems a persistent kernel panic on wake from sleep has been fixed, so I’m not super tempted to hop ATM.

Early on I went from mandrake to gentoo, been on gentoo forever but decided as I was building my docker swarm that I wanted to go easy so I went with Ubuntu server on my 2 additional nodes, and then for my wife’s machine I went Linux mint. When windows is no longer needed for anything I think I will probably do gentoo on my primary machine. The programmer in me likes seeing compiles

Hmmm. My hopping stared long ago. I think it was something like:
MINIX > Slackware > RedHat > Gentoo > LFS > RedHat > Ubuntu > Bazzite
MINIX isn’t technically Linux, but I’m including it for fun. And Ubuntu was by far the longest stretch. Probably close to 15 years on that one.
Open SUSE tumbleweed, KDE plasma.
The update/revert stuff isolated to the os partition is sooooo good. If I hop again it’s going to be to another one with similar functionality.
Snapper is available on most distros, I have it installed on endeavour, and I’ve installed it on gentoo

Pop!_OS on my laptop and CachyOS on my desktop.
Ubuntu (like 100 years ago) > Debian > Mint (for several years) > a bunch of things > Kubuntu > PikaOS (GNOME)
Cinnamon Mint is almost perfect as a daily driver, but had hangups in gaming (frame stutter, controller disconnects, etc…)
Tried PopOS! for a hot minute, Cosmic is pretty but very clearly still WIP
Rode the plasma train for a little while on Kubuntu, but everything felt a little half-baked and games crashed pretty regularly.
I’ve settled on PikaOS GNOME for now as my daily driver. Things seem generally solid, but I’ve only been using it for a few weeks, TBD on the long-term stability, but I’ll probably hang here at least until whenever Mint reaches stable Wayland support, at which point I’ll give that a go.
