These games never made any sense to me. I have enjoyed several of them, but I’ve given up trying to find some cohesive semblance of a narrative. I’m older now and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s just another iteration in the quest for more money.

It doesn’t help that there are seemingly dozens of mobile/phone games on every obscure platform, and they are all canon.

I can summarize it rather quickly.

      most games

      follow 3 categories:

      • the heartless experiments [Sora, Riku, & gang]
      • events of a shattered past [Terra, Aqua, and Ventus]
      • what led up to the first KH (blackhole𖣐)

This “missing link” era was supposed to explain who and what survived that led to the shattered past era AFTER the first KH. How did people from Scala ad Cælum thrive, relearned keyblade magic, etc… Land of Departure folks would be 5th or seven generations after Missing Link era.

This series is as nebulous as greek mythology, thus comparable to Transformers. A generation forgets or changes what the past said the past was, thus we are here. It is supposed to feel somewhat confusing, because a lot of apocalypses occurred, and people couldn’t keep their histories for the next generations.

Nomura just wants to say we are doomed, because we do not keep records well or deceive the future generation, thus we repeat the same mistakes over and over and over again.
