I have an employee who leased a Kia EV. He was super happy, saying how it was a whole new world, NEVER going back.
Few weeks ago his wipers stopped working. No big deal, drop it off, get it fixed. Been there for almost a month. Now they’re talking about wiping each individual computer module and reloading in order to get it working again. Dealer has been working with corporate who engaged their engineering teams because nobody knows why the fuck the wipers won’t work.
I am all for EVs, would love one myself. However, it seems that the EV revolution arrived at the same time that the “overly complex for no benefit” revolution did. Also, add in creepy cyber-stalking via unwanted telemetry and I’m just not into it. I don’t want to be a luddite who refuses to get with the times, but aside from instant torque, there are not a lot of upsides.
Make something that works, make something reasonably priced and fucking TURN OFF THE CREEPY TELEMETRY and maybe I’ll reconsider.
Ha ha, we all know that’s not going to happen. Too many revenue streams from service/repair and the money they get from selling your behavioral patterns to every asshole with a few bucks.
That’s worrisome about the wipers, as is the telemetry. I think my dashboard is Android based, so I wonder if there’s any way to sideload APKs for AdAway or something similar. I managed to net a '24 Ioniq 5 Limited, and due to overflow of repaired/rejuvenated ICCU buybacks, got it for $25k. In my case, it was just the 12v battery that needed replacement.
Slightly different topic, but I can’t wait for vroom sound to fuck off. Every single night, I have jackasses making their big, strong, manly, vroom vroom sounds by my apartment, and doing wheelspins. Can’t wait for that to be taken away over the next 20-ish years by cars simply not making that noise, and being electronically incapable of making wheelspins.
I said nothing about punishing anyone. It’s just the natural way this is going to go. In 20 years, you won’t see a lot of ICE cars, therefore, you won’t hear a lot of annoying car noises.
I’d fucking better still be able to do a burnout you’re describing dystopia. Electric cars can easily produce burnout torque, give me the impression of shifting and I’m all in. The simplicity of electric driving bores me until I’m driving like an absolute bogan, downshifting and punching the throttle in my 5spd Forester is way more fun at 30mph than going 120 in a straight line.
Just got mine 2 weeks ago and it truly is a game changer. I don’t think I could see myself going back to an ICE vehicle ever again.

Unfortunately the telemetry is not an EV only problem. That’s all cars now, and until we make it illegal.
Expect the Slate pickup, they claim.

I hope your never in a ICE vehicle, prolly be the last we see of you
When I first typed this up, I knewsomeone would make that quip.
But yep, I sure hope not either 😳
And the ride is just so god damned smooth.
But no vroom sound and clutch, _,

Yea let’s punish everybody because you have shitty neighbours, instead of punishing the shitty neighbours…
we used this logic on smoking and it’s working pretty damn well so far.
How is not being able to do loud annoying wastefull shit a punishment

I still want to get a speaker on the outside that has the sound of a toddler making revving noises whenever I peel out
Just roll down your windows and become the toddler of which you dream
I need more volume
