shit
Its not inevitable, I do think that anarchist syndicalism is the best vehicle for stopping this. We can change whats cool, we can be accepting and capture the zeitgeist with interesting social relations rather than purely technological developments.
GPUs that have their own proprietary network stacks and need cryptographic authentication when?
Now I understand why DIY computers are such a huge part of cyberpunk stories. Can’t buy 'em off the shelf cuz they’re either illegal or useless.
Yeah no shit. PCs are going away.
…PC will be illegal and streaming your desktop to a dead screen will be mandatory.
Realize data centers aren’t being built for chatgpt. It’s all war and surveillance.
We are giving up our humanity to be cattle. And don’t get me wrong. . we are cattle and have been cattle for a long time.
Are you fighting for humanity or a business disguised as a nation? Genuinely ask yourself why you promote change of something that you actually shouldn’t even be a part of if you live for authentic humanity.
Part of me thinks this is why memory prices are being held high. Even if supply increases I doubt we’ll see significant reductions in price.
Frontier AI models will only be accessible by the rich and powerful (government and corpos). Distilled frontier models for local use may exist but will be arbitrarily out of reach for most due to hardware availability or pricing.
This is all by design.
Oh no, we can only use limited versions of the climate destroying unaffordable slop machines! Whatever shall we do to lose money now?
The rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer, and whether you participate in it or not will not change that. That all of us will continue to not even have the opportunity to play on a level playing field should concern you. I don’t give a shit about your opinion on AI in general; this is still a problem for us.
It may be a problem for you personally, but overall, frontier LLMs are completely unaffordable and without massive venture capital “subsidies” will soon collapse.
So nah, this is zero worry to me, and should be to you.
It should absolutely worry you, all of it, not sure what your problem is, but wasting my time fighting you is what they want, so I am bowing out.
The US has already restricted fable 5
Hence my comment.

This has been known for a very long time
Please post this to anarchy and flipanarchy communities, I wouldnt want to take credit for this realistic and promising thought
Open hardware
RPi FTW!
The raspberry pi is not open hardware, as far as I know. For example the Broadcom SoC used are definitely not open hardware.
And also, having open hardware (i.e. having full specifications and schematics) is not really going to help much if you can’t get CPUs (you can’t manufacture your own CPUs: the machinery required costs way too much).
If they really ban owning CPUs, the only one to obtain one would be through black market…
Alright then, Pine64 FTW!
