Hamaguchi confirmed that each character will have 4 fits, which are apparently used as both costume and job. FF7 allowed anyone to be any job with the materia set you give them, and the fits will apparently give them unique abilities to focus on a job. Time to list all the jobs that exist and spread them across the 8 characters? Mystic Knight / Dark Knight for Cloud, Time Mage for Red XIII, Monk and apparently Black Mage for Tifa, Berserker and Blue Gunner for Vincent… Cait Sith can have the White Mage and be actually relevant now.

If it works on the steam deck I’ll buy the whole trilogy.

I haven’t played it yet because the trilogy isn’t finished yet.

Oh good. I thought Sony had their head up their ass and were going to do a PlayStation exclusive.

Meh trailer, but I’ll probably pick up the game eventually. I didn’t love the story changes in the second game, so I’m prepared to hate this ending. But maybe it’ll be good!

Launching simultaneously on consoles and PC

Took 'em long enough to figure this out. I’m happy.

Cant fucking wait! I am kind of shocked it’s so soon and very happy they are finishing it. I wonder if another game will get a similar upgrade next.

I’m really hoping for some fan mod of something down the line that converts all of these assets to a near perfect replica of the OG game just turn based.

I was kind of hoping they’d continue the other theme naming for the FF7 series and call it Final Crisis.

They expected to use Reunion for part 2, I think, but then the Crisis Core remake team stole that from under them without asking.

Spring 2027, so less than a year away (assuming no delays). Also will be a simultaneous launch on all systems, no exclusivity window this time.

I’ve been long frustrated about the time ghost branching story effort stuff, but I’m still happy they’ve managed to put finishing touches on this trilogy. Maybe I’ll play it now.

Other guy is right, they both have a lot of content with the 2nd being even longer. Idk how much you play but each game was about a solid month if not a little longer to beat with an average of about 2 hours a day. My save for the 2nd game is like 160 hours.

I’ll always advocate for patient gaming, but in case you were looking to catch up on the first two before this one comes out, I would start sooner than later for a couple reasons. First is just because they are absolutely massive games that may take longer than expected to complete, but second because I think they benefit from taking a break in between. I wouldn’t do one right after the other.

I’m guessing that it will sell even less than the second one. By far the worst and most disrespectful remake this generation.

Remake left a sour taste in a lot of people’s mouths. Rebirth confirmed to the world that the horrific writing was not going away.

Their sales recovered once they left PlayStation, so now that there’s a simultaneous launch, the smart money is on it doing phenomenally well.

3-4 million less sales according to resetera. Losing 30% of your customers in the mid-point of the story is rough.

Final Fantasy VII Remake and Intergrade have sold 8.7 million units as of March 2025, according to Eurogamer. With the Switch 2 and Xbox ports, I won’t be surprised if it is between 9 to 9.5 million units at the moment.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has sold 4 million units on the PS5, based on what we heard from Alex Donaldson back in August 2024, and anywhere from 700k- 1 million units on Steam, according to Steamdb, but take these numbers with a grain of salt. It could be anywhere from 5-6 million units, but we can’t know for sure until we get numbers from Square Enix.

I’m sure the third one will also have ridiculously inflated review scores.

Yes, Rebirth required a hardware upgrade to play, which is going to lose a lot of players compared to the install base of the PS4 in 2020. There are also the folks waiting for the trilogy to finish before picking up either the entire set or the one in the middle they hadn’t played yet. And anecdotally, though I haven’t seen this stat tracked yet, if you make me wait over a year for exclusivity to run out before you port it to my platform, I’m not playing it the first day it’s available; they trained me to wait already, so I may as well wait for a deep sale. I still haven’t purchased or played Rebirth, but I plan to during this upcoming summer sale, and I’m replaying Remake now ahead of that.

Review scores are just someone’s opinion, and they’re only “inflated” when it’s not an opinion you share.

Yep that’s exactly it for me. I played Remake on PS5 but the wait between Remake and Rebirth was really long, and I don’t even have a PS5 anymore so it was even longer. By the time Rebirth came out on PC/Switch 2 I was just like eh never mind, I’ll wait for the whole trilogy now.

Review scores reflect the production quality of a game more than the actual quality of the game design. That’s why every piece of crap game from a AAA publisher gets a 7 or 8 out of 10 but a masterpiece can get a similar score just because they don’t look as fancy.

One of this year’s best-rated games is a 2D game that looks like it was made for the Game Boy Color, and last year’s Call of Duty got a 65 on OpenCritic. Perhaps critics like Remake and Rebirth for the ways they subverted the idea of remaking a classic while still integrating a classic combat system into a modern one, as that’s what their words would seem to indicate. The reality is that what you might consider a masterpiece is going to be grating for someone else, and that’s going to bring down its average review score.

I don’t care to speculate on their sales numbers, I’m not rooting for their failure or anything, but I know I didn’t bother with Rebirth after what Remake did to the story. I’ll wait for an overhaul mod that cuts the time ghost nonsense out of the whole trilogy.

I am rooting for its failure after seeing the level of quality in their final product. It is overly ambitious but they didn’t have the talent to actually write well or make any of the new content an improvement over the original.

SquareEnix is just existing because an MMO is keeping them afloat.
