The problem i have is when they infodump at the start with a bunch of names ill never remember.

“In the year 1590, jahalabad of nehazarad conquered the realm of jililabab, defeating rilolobob in the grand battle of kolololooom, ushering in a new age of…” skipped.

This is why I love roguelites. I don’t need a story to tell me why I’m in this dungeon, just give me a gun and/or sword.

The exception to this rule is Hades, the gameplay is great but if I could skip the gameplay to get more cutscenes I’d be tempted sometimes cuz the story is so fucking good

The psychology of breaking down a soldier in basic training … beat a new recruit to a pulp, physically, mentally and emotionally until all they understand is how to use a gun and shoot things that are alive.

I mean, I’m here to play a video game, not watch a movie catered to 15 year old, socially stunted boys. It takes a lot of convincing for me to stick around through “Hey newbie, you have to earn our leader’s trust by securing 6 mcguffins and a candy bar before they’ll meet you.”

I never understand this mentality, like why even play a game if you’re too impatient to even engage with the content.

Kids. They don’t have the attention span. I watch my niece play games, and she never pays attention to cutscenes and never spends her skill points.

This fine citizen won’t skip the setup in the video either. It’s integral to their enjoyment that one knows exactly how the step sister got stuck in the appliance! I salute you.

I’m not here to watch a movie. I’m here to take this axe and hit monsters with it.

I’m sure bloodborne has a very deep story. I had a great time just hitting stuff with that axe and occasionally shooting things. That’s the bulk of the content.

Shooting demons is the content. I do not want to listen to the scientist tell me why they opened portals to hell. I do not care why they opened portals to hell. I just want to shoot demons.

This is why I like the 1993 Doom more than the 2016 Doom: Nobody tries to talk to me and stop me shooting demons for any period of time.

It’s fun when FFXIV has dungeons that wrap so tightly into the story, leading many of these players to realize they shouldn’t have been skipping so many cutscenes.

Sultry voice: “Welcome to the final days of Amaurot.”
“…shit, wait, how did we get here?? Why is everything on fire”
