And other complete bullshit statistics I ripped out of thin air.
If you think even close to 90% of homophobes – or fuck it, 90% of cases if you think the countable closet gay instances are vastly unevenly distributed among a tiny 1% – are doing it because they’re secretly aching for gay sex/romance, you’re out of your fucking mind and need to take that shit back to high school psychology.
Just like 90% of racists don’t secretly wish they were another race or 90% of transphobes aren’t closet trans, this is egregiously wrong and nonsensical.
Nope, I was 100% religious. With some philosophy, and Nihilism, I became fairly non-homophobic.
I now use “if you are homophobic, you are secretly gay” to scare religious people from being homophobic.
EDIT: Actually, it was cultural. I was still religious when I started practicing your soul, your problem. To reconcile being left with being religious, I would just “preach” how being gay would send you to hell, and then like literally hold nothing against them after, I did my “duty”.
Making homophobia a “problem of the gays themselves” has been a common trope for decades. It’s very comforting because it kind of absolves heteropatriarchal society.
Of course don’t you dare to delve into WHY do some gay people have internalised homophobia.
