I have much confusion. What is this post trying to say?
In suburban areas of the US and Canada, mixed use buildings are generally not allowed.
Mixed use meaning retail space one the ground level with apartments/ condos above.
However, some of these shopping centers are built to give the appearance of mixed use space to give it a more “luxurious” appearance.
So the post is implying that the second floor of the building is fake.
Another commenter has pictures of before and after the remodel that added the “fake” second floor.
I think tt’s actually a plaza, not a mall.
It’s just like prison where they designate one area everyone gets to run and play.
This is so eerily dystopian. It’s Sherwood Village, formerly the Sheridan Center, in Mississuaga, Ontaria, Canada.

I mean, I understood the comment just fine, but throe is kind of a neat word and it’s a shame not to use it.
I could ask AI or Google it, but I rather ask another human who appears to be passionate about a word. Where else is this word used as you really only see it in the death throes context but what else could throes?
Mostly I hear it in the idiom death throes, or in the throes of passion, but occasionally it pops up in other contexts to describe painful spasms, or difficult upheavals, like workers in the throes of economic turmoil, or the throes of childbirth.
It’s not a pleasant word. It’s basically pain or difficulty.
Childbirth is another “in the throes of…”
I am in the throes of a meltdown today due to enshitification on the developer tools I use.

I mean it’s not even really close to the same thing, no? It’s a single use street and the use is “retail” and maybe a bit of food. The closest thing would be the ones with a string of cheap shitty apartments across the street.
Given most places only have expensive shitty apartments available right now that would absolutely be an improvement.
Also maybe we shouldn’t have such rigid rules that a street can only be used for a single use such as retail because of zoning.
All buildings should require like, 5 stories minimum, and at least 1 must be residential.
Not factories and rural development. But yes. And bike access that’s shorter or equal than by car.
