FH1 was absolutely brilliant. Combined with a racing wheel, it genuinely felt like the Forza Motorsport series had been let loose, literally.
Each subsequent FH release has just been… cool, I guess? The next four iterations weren’t really groundbreaking and it felt like map packs than new games.
The soundtrack has consistently been absolutely banging though
The graphics are better, new & more cars, some new event types, physics improve. It’s released infrequently enough that it allows the game to breathe and make you want more. Yeah it’s pretty similar, but like where do you go with the open world concept to evolve? I really don’t know. Add more of a story?
To be fair, in driving games, you dont really want to be changing a whole lot about the driving model once everyone agrees its perfect. Good driving mechanics are always good, and bad driving mechanics are always bad. The only thing worse than bad driving mechanics is when the previous game had perfectly fun driving physics and the next game changed it, making it objectively worse.
Which happened to Need for Speed. A fun arcade racer with predictable physics, Underground 2 had perfected the driving model Black Box had made. Slidey enough to make entering a drift feel easy and controllable, but still predictable enough to master over time. Then in Most Wanted they changed the driving model and added insane amounts of grip for some reason, making the driving model feel more like Mario Kart. Then every game after that one got progressively worse, until we land at the absolute bottom of the barrel games made by Criterion, who make all their driving models feel like they came from a mobile game with tilt controls. Like Unbound.
I dont believe a driving game with good and fun driving mechanics needs to really change anything other than the map, music, and adding cars for subsequent games.
The soundtrack has consistently been absolutely banging though
While the set list is great it annoys the hell out of me just how much they censor the songs. I understand taking out actual curse words considering the rating (but then why choose that song to begin with) however in 4 they started censoring more than just that. They censored god in the line “play out playing god” and high in “I’m flying high, on the wings of a wasted life” just as a couple examples and there’s plenty more.
Same word, different situation entirely, but I’ve long been used that the radio edit for Panic at the Disco’s I Write Sins… Was always “haven’t you people ever heard of, closing the g*d damn door”

I have no idea what the soundtrack is outside of hospital music, as I never change it

Haha I remember in 3 the Chvrches song ‘Never say die’ has the titular ‘die’ quietened out all through the song
It weird, why include the song itself if you’re gonna censor out part of its title line anyway
