I think it’s a fairly common fantasy. Never in my life have I been hit on as much by young women as when I got a touch of grey in my beard and temples. It started in my early forties and I assume it will stop once I pass or get close to sixty, but holy shit!

My best friend (f) since high school use to tell me how she loved men with a little grey. When she was 19, she even went out of her way to pick a guy (~43) up at the gym and bring him to her place to fuck. I always thought she was goofy but once I got my grey I realized how common a fantasy it actually is.

My wife spotted a couple of strands of grey recently and seemed to get really excited, so maybe she wasn’t just playing it up to make me feel better

I’m just glad it took longer for me than it did for my dad, he went grey in his mid twenties. I remember by the time I was my kids age he was already completely grey, and I still occasionally have people scrutinize my ID when buying alcohol

Sixty is about right. I’m sixty, it still happens, but not the young part anymore. You just need to take care of yourself and not turn into slob.

Presumably it depends on the men having kids from a previous (or soon-to-be-previous) relationship, so if you’re one of those childless weirdos, you may need to make up a child, like in that Nick Hornby novel.

In my experience, having kids didn’t factor much into the conversations. Not having children was acceptable and in many circumstances beneficial. What did come up every single time was marriage status (single, married, divorced, widowed). The vibe I got was that the biggest red flag for a middle aged man was never had been married. I guess that paints the man as either selfish, a man-child, or both. In all, not positive.

I started getting a little grey in my late 20s and have been told it looks great on me so… Feels like I’m playing with cheats enabled lol

The stress I had to go through to go grey this early was phenomenal of course, I’ve got my ex to thank for that.
