Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have an atmosphere like a Studio Ghibli movie. If that doesn’t appeal to you than I guess you won’t like those games.
I don’t understand how Nintendo is charging over $100CAD/game and can’t bother to hire voice actors for this shit. I tried BOTW and it felt like a shitty asset flip to me that was way overpriced. Sold my switch and went back to just PC and emulation
I mean are they not using essentially the same assets since ever? Every game they put out just feels like regurgitated IP to maximise profits at this point.
Edit: and ref the voice acting, that’s fine if they want to go that route, I realize a lot of people like it. But if they don’t need entire departments other studios have then they shouldn’t be charging so much for the game was my point.
… No? Most Legend of Zelda games use the same style maybe twice or thrice… if that. New style means new assets, new models and textures. So they’re not simply reusing assets.
And I strongly disagree. For a game to be priced lower it needs to actually have less value. Not simply be absent of something you’re used to in Western games.
It looks fine. It’s more the gameplay that doesn’t seem appealing. It seems almost frictionless. There’s too many games that do something similar that are more appealing to me. I’ve been meaning to get into Outward (I own it, but I haven’t put the time into it to get far), but now Outward 2 is on the horizon. It’s open world adventure, but it actually asks the player to think and put some effort into it.
I mean… The Legend of Zelda also asks you to think and put some effort into it, in the form of dungeon puzzles. It’s the gameplay specifically what I compare to the atmosphere of a Ghibli movie.
I’ve played Outward. It’s… Incredibly janky, and also tries to be a very hardcore type of game. I don’t think it can be adequately compared to something like Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.
They can be compared in that they’re both open-world action-adventure games. I can’t play every game, and of those I’m much more interested in Outward, because it’s trying (and often failing, but still trying) to do something really interesting. BotW was trying to do something others have done, just very polished. I’m more interested in the games who are experimenting, even if I have to deal with a bunch of jank.
BotW and TotK make you think, but in a way that a child can complete it without much issue. That’s fine, but that’s their target. If it’s harder than that then it’s too hard for the game. This isn’t a complaint, but an observation. It’s like going to Pokémon and expecting a challenge. It’s literally made for children, so it’s not going to be there. It’s on me if I go in expecting a challenge.

Sounds like you’re unfamiliar with Japanese games. It’s not typical for them to have full voice acting.
Calling anything from The Legend of Zelda a cheap asset flip is quite something, though.

There is no open world game like Breath of the Wild. But your loss.
