I have a particular term for certain kinds of edginess I just call “Shadow the Hedgehog writing”, where it’s more likely to come from a teenager trying to seem grown up/cool than an actual adult.

Plenty of anime/VNs have fallen in this category, giving early content warnings that the content will be dark; and then just having non sequitor turnouts like “And then the heroine stepped in a trap that severed her spine. She screamed for hours, praying for help, but none came.”

There’s a particular game whose name rhymes with “Tomato” that did this for me once. You bring some children to safety, and then go fight the attackers sending tanks after them. I came back to the kids, joking to myself “Sorry, hero, it’s too late; we already drowned in our own fear and sadness…!” And then I laughed out loud when my joke turned out right.

Worst part is, there is some grim and depressing stuff in the world, and yet so many grimdark writers don’t see any nuance in it.

      Yes.

Also I don’t know what the f in pfp is. If it’s supposed to be profile picture, then the acronym should clearly be pp.

That, or just a general abbreviation. If doesn’t have to be a specific form of abbreviation.

Radar (Radio Detection And Ranging) also isn’t a strict initialism, or it would be called RDAR.

Phrases like etc. (et cetera), & co. (company), vs. (versus), are also generally abbreviations.

Pfp makes no sense though. Why does profile get two letters if it’s the same length as picture? Just say an actual word or call it pp.

Abbreviations don’t strictly have to follow any specific logic, they just need to be understood. What you’re describing is an initialism, where you just take the first letters.

My best guess for pfp is that it’s an initialism of the first three syllables because the fourth is unintuitive, three letters was common enough back in the day of BBS and pfp was recognisable enough, while pp is fairly ambiguous. Someone started abbreviating it like this, people picked up on it, and by the time I was old enough to engage with English message boards it was the norm already.

People have inferiority complex when they’re young so they feel they need to brag with how “badass” they are.

When you’re older you understand that true wisdom is in the little things, in the things that don’t look like much but make up a healthy society.

I only watched S1 and the very start of S2, but I would say there is clearly a much worse one. If he just picked her the series would have been over immediately, another big plus.

The first pfp I used was a cropped FF Advent Children walkpaper of Cloud with sunglasses.

I still use Panty from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt in some places. In other places I have an anime style OC character from a game I was developing (for which I lost the code to a hard drive crash). Some places have my photo (which I regret).

Now I use a photo of my cats.

    I don’t think I have a pfp on Lemmy

Join us in the world of cozy/puzzle games, where quick time events can go to die and you don’t have to treat a game like a full time job to be good at it 😄

Stardew Valley (and its many farm sim clones), Slime Rancher, Balatro, and Chicory: A Colorful Tale are just a few off top of my head. I can delve into my games libraries and list a bunch more lol

Edit: From my Steam library alone, mostly what I’ve played lately:

          • Hello Kitty Island Adventure

          • Power Wash Simulator

          • Unbox the Room

          • Wanderstop

          And my Switch library:

          • Moonstone Island

          • both “Mario + Rabbids” games (puzzle/strategy)

          • Ooblets

          • Animal Crossing

          • Sun Haven

          • Cattails: Wildwood Story

          • Sprout Valley

          • Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles

          • Calico

          • The Ace Attorney Trilogy

There’s more in my Steam library that probably fit the bill but I haven’t fully played them yet. All of the above have minimal real time combat/platforming or accessibility options to mitigate it. All can also be played at your own pace, as well :)

Further edit: almost forgot my epic library too!

          • Bear and Breakfast

          • Toem

          • Garden Story

Not cozy or puzzle oriented, but Baldur’s Gate 3 turns into turn-based mode in combat. Pretty sure the same applies for other Larian games too, but I haven’t tried them.

Do you like voxel sandbox games? Luanti is quite nice and relaxing depending on game (Luanti is technically a voxel game engine, and you can find various types of games in the built-in content browser)

I wanted a pfp of what I wanted to be and now it is what I am. I wanted to be read as cool but now I have Many from Honzuki no Gekokuji, because I love literature and I see myself as a small girlie.
