We are building a community based on shared experiences. Since we are a bunch of fucking weirdoes with nothing in common, we are creating experiences out of thin air.

    RANT:

that actually makes me want to quit Lemmy. I really hope the kids responsible for those “sophisticated” jokes will realise it is not funny. I get tired reading 10th meme in a row, regarding some random thing because some obscure and usually unimportant thing happened, and stupid stuff like that recently happens twice a week.

It’s lame. And it makes clear why Lemmy will never be in the main stream.

Ok kids. Let me take you back in time to the olden days of yore, or as we like to call it, Thursday morning.

Back then, a little known user, @[email protected], posted an innocuous shitpost regarding early Mr. Universe winner, Bruce Randall:

    https://kbin.earth/m/[email protected]/t/3329134/In-the-late-1950s-early-Mr-Universe-winner-Bruce-Randall#comments

Bruce bulked up by putting powdered milk in his milk. This grabbed Lemmy’s attention by the beans and resulted in the memegasm of powdered milk we see today. Last time I checked, it had blown it all the way up to Ten Forward:

    https://kbin.earth/m/[email protected]/t/3330101/This-substance-is-inefficient#comments

…where apparently resistance to powdered milk is futile.

These days (Thursday evening), the powdered milk memegasm has mostly run its course. Metamemes are popping up, blending beans and milk, with dire consequences for Lemmings’ digestive systems and anyone standing downwind of them.

In essence, powdered milk is a prime example of the meme lifecycle - arising from a shitpost, wafting high on its own cringe into the collective consciousness to be flung between hairless apes until it splatters over everything, marking everything with its scent before finally descending back into the shitpost from whence it came.

Side note: This would make a perfect subject for a documentary on memes narrated by David Attenborough.
