Today’s game is Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. While i was doing my ACIII playthrough, i was watching the LoTR trilogy with my younger siblings. And you know what it reminded me of? This game. It feels like the Arkham Games meet Middle Earth. I never got very far into it though years ago when i first played, so i wanted to try and finish it now.

I’m really liking it, except Tallion’s face. It feels off somehow. I don’t know what it is but something feels weird about it. For like 75% of the game though i don’t look at his face so i can ignore it.
I like the quest it had you do where you help Ratbag. It’s a good introduction to the Nemesis system i feel like and it gives you a sort of trial to work the system with.

I really like the stealth, though i wouldn’t say Tallion is exactly stealthy. He lands on an Orc screaming. I’m thinking the Orcs are just deaf.
I’m especially fond of the drop attack. Drop onto an enemy and take them out, then clamber back on up. It makes quick work of enemies and is satisfying for me to do.

At one point i went Orc hunting and stormed a fortress. I killed 3 captains and got as far as killing a few enemies before i missed an arrow QTE and got downed. It’s kind of surprising how tanky the combat can be. As long as you hit your blocks and dodges you can kind of keep going forever. I was kind of expecting it to be a lot more reliant on stealth.

I’m enjoying the game a lot though. I’m glad i’m finally getting to sit down and play it. Growing up i was a big Tolkien fan and i’ve heard people praise this game so i’m excited.
I was going to say congratulations on hitting 500, and how I always enjoy these and I’ve actually learned a number of things. And stuff.
But there’s a ton of well wishers who beat me to it. So, uh, fuck you!
Thank you! It’s been a lot of fun doing these. I’m just glad I’ve gotten a chance to talk about games I play. I like to help people broaden their horizons, and I think in a way this has helped me broaden mine too. There’s been so many people who have suggested new games and other stuff that it’s helped me try new experiences (ironic considering all the Halo it’s been lately though).
So, uh, I guess what I’m saying is fuck you too!
I would love to play this game, but the lack of a FOV option makes it entirely unplayable. I tried several times and within minutes I’m at the point of almost throwing up. I’ve never encountered another game with a FOV this bad, it’s pathetic!
Shadow of War is even better. Are you planning on playing that at some point too?
I always hear people praise the Shadow franchise, and not to put Mordor down, but get the feeling War is the one everyone is talking about, so I do plan on playing it. I know a bit about it and it sounds like a lot of fun
What did you like about it? I ran out of steam when it felt like more of the same
It was quite some time ago when I played the game, so I might not remember everything.
- The story felt like it was a good continuation of the first title and somewhat tied in to the books/movies.
- The combat was fleshed out more with more moves and weapons
- more interesting uruks, personalities, afflictions they can developed as a result of the way you killed them first
- the sieges were a cool addition
It was definitely more of the same in a way but it was executed well. There was that whole controversy around real-money loot boxes to pull good uruks from that you could employ to guard your fort, in a way being pay 2 win if you had money to spend on loot boxes. But at least that was removed and made free.
I just realised the game came out like 7 years ago. Where does the time go…
You didn’t like the game too much, I take it?
Grats on 500! It’s always fun to see what game you have up next, thanks for the ongoing shares
keeps going back to Minecraft and Mario Kart 64, because superior games
Too bad this game’s nemesis feature is locked behind WB’s patent…
I would have loved to see that in so many games. It pisses me off that they have it locked up like that
Patenting a game mechanic should be illegal. Somebody from n*ntendo should be investigated for patenting the summoning gameplay element.
Day 500! Awesome! Thank you for posting all of these. I rarely comment, but I do love seeing them. :)
Congrats on the 500! And damn, that Orc looks like he came straight from a goth rave
It’s boring work being an Orc. You definitely need some sort of hobby to keep busy. So why not try goth raves?
Do we see his buttcrack?
I think it’s just his undershirt but now that you point out I see it
After many years I finished myself a few weeks ago! Nice gameplay, and funny you mention Arkham which I played for the first time also a month ago and it’s definitely recycled mechanics, which is good!
Shadow of Mordor is around 2014, right? I wonder if they took inspiration from WB work on Arkham Origins
