I made this. Screen names, dial-up sound, no account. We fill the Lobby every Saturday 2pm US Central. Bring your worst 1997 screen name.

OP, this is you for real? First off, well done. It’s lovely to be online without bots.
Can you tell us from a privacy perspective, what records and data you collect? I assume IP address and logs of the text. What else? Browser data? Just curious.
I still use IRC. It’s great.
Thank you :-) - yep, it’s me. no account or email. your lines are stored with your screen name and shown to people in the room for up to seven days.
a random token in your browser holds your name so nobody else can take it; it isn’t tied to who you are. your IP is used for rate limits and spam and kept 7 days at most.
lines are checked by an outside moderation service before they post, and a few refused ones are kept 48 hours to tune the filter.
the bot check (Vercel) may set its own cookie. nothing is sold. full privacy page is in Help. don’t put personal info in the room, anyone can read it.
For rate limits, I would ask that you please add a cooldown counter to know how long to sit out. I also didn’t know no URLs were allowed and tried to paste a link, which didn’t paste. So I try and edit it to not be a URL, no go (which I’m sort of OK with, but broken up URLs might be nice). Then in that and trying to ask “hey, can we not post links here?” I got throttled to the point I wasn’t sure how long I needed to wait around. If it’s a minute, I’ll wait. If I somehow hit 10 minutes or something, that’s crazy.
I do want to commend you for translating emojis to emoticons. That’s very classy.
The “outside moderation service” appears to be OpenAI, so the chats will be stored indefinitely.
fair worry, here’s exactly what happens. openai’s moderation endpoint is one check, not storage. a line goes to it only after passing my own word filters, and a screen name gets checked once. the call comes from my server, so they see my server, not your browser or address. their docs list that endpoint with no retention and no training use: https://developers.openai.com/api/docs/guides/your-data. i can’t audit their side, but that’s the published policy.
on my end, posted lines stay in the room’s history with how long ago they were said, until newer lines push them out. my filters get patched as edge cases show up, so i keep a small sample of refused lines for 48 hours to catch any that refuse normal chat.
How can you tell?
Ugh, there’s plenty of local moderation tools
Womp womp… Saved forever.
OK, well I guess I’m going to have spam the other rooms with no one in them with ChatGPT injections.
