Every line in the boot path is code we wrote. There is zero Apple code between power-on and Linux. The bootloader is ours, top to bottom. To our knowledge, no one has done this on an A13 device before.

This is awesome. I was able to recycle my wheel iPod way back 00s with Linux when an os update failed and bricked my device. Nice to see someone doing this.

Almost zero info, but they do sell a €150 stick with an AI slop unicorn on it. Sounds very fishy to me.

TBH, we’re going to see a lot of this shit. Documented exploits, documented hardware, documented OS, The current gen of AI tooling is pretty good at retrying tons of shit until it gets SOMETHING working. What runs will probably not be performant, and since no one wrote it or understands it, they won’t have any clue how to make it run better and that’s something that the current tooling is NOT good at.

Literal nonissue to use ai for sht like this and the decompiling of games to make mods people have been doing, it could all potentially run locally, its not replacing any jobs and its tedious sht ppl wouldnt do otherwise unless they were insane, like game crackers

Is Voices38 using AI on Denuvo? I hope so for their own sanity but also hoping more than 1 guy starts doing it so Irdeto’s legal department gets swamped chasing ghosts.

I’m curious if they are able (or have any intentions) to access the gsm modem to send/receive phone calls.

Historically, on android, this was a vendor specific binary blob, which really limited what you could do with it “as a phone”.

I will never trust faceID. At least with a 6 digit pin the cops have to escalate to a super swamped tech dept

Most implementations have a way to kill off the Face ID authentication. On modern iPhones you can spam the power button 5 times and Face ID is disabled. If you want a “cold boot” situation which is much harder to get into, just press and hold volume down and power for 10 seconds to hard reboot it.

I’d be happy to drop the phone part of the phone switching to mobile Linux if I could still send and receive calls using an app and wifi only without a carrier

That’d be kinda useless as soon as you’re out of wi-fi range which for me personally is pretty much any time I’m not home

However, if they could get just the data part of LTE working, that would be good enough, I’d just tell people who actually know me to use an app to call me and everyone else doesn’t need to reach me this badly anyway

I would like to see how the GUs will be handled, i tried to play with something similar using ATV, i didn’t sleep for three days reading logs of hardware failure.

But i hope they can make it.

Nice job, but are you Rosenzweig level? Because booting the kernel on iPhones has been done before. Getting a usable software stack is a whole other territory.

And I think running Android (with every hardware working) on these would be harder than what’s Asahi done for M-Macbooks.

Why would you want Android anyway, it only works properly if you have it as closed down as iOS, otherwise you lose a ton of apps. If you’re gonna lose the ability to use banks and whatnot, might as well just go mainline Linux.

Not saying Android is a good OS, but this is false. It is 100% possible to use android rooted and with the bootloader unlocked while still retaining access to any apps you want. Banks or otherwise.

Not that I would want Android on iPhones, it just looked that would be eaiser to achieve than pure Linux because some components of iPhones already have driver blobs for Android. Of course Android has its own quirks too, so maybe not so different.

Linux has been booted on some older ones before as far as I know, this is the first time it’s been done on the 11. There’s even (very) partial Nura (PostMarketOS) support for iPhones from 5s to X.
