Why not just use GIMP? I don’t really use image manipulation and editing except for extremely basic things, so maybe GIMP has some important limitations I don’t know about.

Does gimp support CMYK now? I’m a professional designer and that’s one of the reasons I didn’t use gimp. If you’re designing print media for a million dollar company, or if you want to do it right, you need to grade the colors correctly. By using rgb pics for printing you have no control over what the printer spits out. Also: if you’re using the visuals for more media than online banners, like video, it’s just so much easier to import PSDs to After effects. When you’re paid by the work and not the hour, you can’t afford to export every layer from gimp to import everything to a different program and redo all the stuff you already did. Time is money

No fucking clue…like i said I only use it for extremely basic hobby editing so it may have limitations I don’t know about. But a simple web search suggests that GIMP indeed can support CMYK.

GIMP is as robust as Photoshop, although from scratch or transition may be harder to use? paint net is a middle ground.

I think GIMP intentionally forced upon itself different methods to Photoshop which was a possible mistake, users migrating to GIMP can find it foreign and unnatural and drop after a few uses and return to what they know. They should maybe have Winuxed it a bit more.

Last time I tried using Paint.NET (early last year, I think) it had significant feature gaps compared to the likes of Photoshop, Krita, or Gimp. It’s a good start. And I know it’s an open source project that’s dependent on contributions and funds. But if you need to edit images beyond some relatively basic features, it’s not there yet.

For real! It’s partially what keeps me coming back to Windows. I yearn for the day when Paint.net can be ran on Linux.
