- They’re for a project I swear - I totally haven’t renewed them year after year without any movement on that project - I… Feel called out

 - A single domain helps so much, regardless of what you have planned. I basically use mine just as bookmarks. There’s a dedicated subdomain for dynamic DNS. I make use of SRV records. Costs me like 6 bucks a year. You don’t need huge ambitions or dreams for a domain name to make sense. - It’s just a joke reference to some people who hold onto a domain specifically for their pet project that they aren’t actively pursuing. I’m sure it doesn’t apply to everyone - My longest “I’ll use that domain soon” was 1 1/2 years. I’m a lightweight.

- I got my username because it was about £11 for 2 years, and by buying it through cloudflare I get tones of ways to access the stuff I self host. - At some point I plan on setting up a personal website.

- Don’t ask, not because it’s rude but because they honestly lost count years ago.
- We’re really consuming them at an alarming rate. Soon, the only affordable ones will have either 20+ characters, a sus TLD, or just be a nonsensical string nobody can pronounce. - The weird TLDs will just be normalised - I sure hope so. Half of the Fediverse uses them. We don’t want people thinking “no way I’m clicking sh.itjust.works”

- They’re my emotional support domains - I put a hanging ball sack on mine. It makes me feel tough and special.

- I have zero, but within a few years, it may be one…
- And a bajillion subdomains

- That’s funny, I was just looking up registering my first domain name for a project this morning.
- Zero, cuz they cost money and I don’t earn my salary in USD
- And how many domain registers they have ;-; - Moving everything to one registrar was a pain but well worth it.

- 1 with many subdomains. But I intend to invest in a second one with my legal name, for more professional purposes.
- Just one for me… for now.
- For now, just 4…
- None because I use free ones. - Freedns is amazing. You can take a public one and have as many subdomains as you want. Even nested.
- whoisearth.com - had for 20+ years. Personal sandbox - ifuckswiththat.com - both just general blogs - “Surname”.com - I get my personal email and my kids all setup there - How did you setup your emai? - I use dreamhost and it’s just normal IMAP.
