I like a bit of levity, especially when much of the political news sounds like a shitpost. At least here one can recommend punching Nazis and saying kids should be allowed to physically defend themselves while being titillated by soapy tiddies and letting the bean team bake.

Shitpost is a catchall community. You can post just about anything here. There’s a lot of discussion that goes on in some posts, and other posts that are simply ‘heh bewbs’ level content.

I love the randomness of it because it jives with the way my brain works. I flit about like a methed up hummingbird, and so does this community.

I feel like Lemmy/Piefed made a big mistake if you compare it to the early days of Reddit. Peoplee here always try to put everything into neat little categories called communities, but most of them are dead or only have a single person posting stuff with zero comments. In the early days of Reddit there were no subreddits, you can still see how that looks on Hacker News for example. Lemmy should’ve started like that and introduce communties much later, as a consequence [email protected] has become the catch all community all this should’ve started with.

        That’s true.

I have three pretty much dead communities I made which seemed like good ideas at the time but are just way too niche and I have way too little time to promote them. I’m subscribed to a pile of communities that are dead as well

that’s actually a flaw not a feature, shitposting is the lowest effort posting in any community and a lot of subs on reddit ban shitposting from their subs because it drowns out all the other content and community

that is to say the most popular comm in this place takes the least effort

which makes lemmy less of a reddit alternative and more a 9gag alternative

Or it’s genius because anyone who has some shit to post in a real community either decides it’s better for here, where it can be enjoyed and it doesn’t drown out the real content, or they try it there, the mod stops them, and instead of getting all butthurt about it they can bring it here where it gets seen by more people anyway and still the real community stays pure.
