Kind of ruins it for me that sassafras was banned in the 1960s for its carcinogenic properties and now all root beer is made from artificial sassafras. I stick with ginger beer myself.
interestingly only the bark and its oil are banned. you can still buy the leaves as gumbo file since they don’t have the oil in them. they don’t taste like root beer though
it was? huh. i used to brew my own root beer (like ten years ago, not in the 60s) and i probably still have a bag of sassafras bark laying around somewhere.
I usually get Fever-Tree ginger beer, which lists ginger root in the ingredients with no artificial flavorings. That being said, I wouldn’t put it past any company to lie about ingredients after learning about, for example, studies showing products claiming to have avacado oil actually contain other types oils.

A lot of root beer is flavored with wintergreen.

Where I am, the amount is limited but you can make MDMA is you wanted to.
Use half for really good homemade root beer, half for MDMA. That sounds like a fun party.
See the Toxicity section: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sassafras
Ginger beer isn’t even made from fresh squeezed Gingers anymore.
Some of them are. The good ones.
