I skipped the PS4 gen and went from 3 to 5. Is it just my poor memory or did the PS3 controllers not last longer? I know the 5 has more going on in it, but the battery tech has to improve greatly as well in ~14 years
Ps3 controller where basically the best controller ever made in terms of battery life and reliability. Hall effects, amazing battery life, could fall from a 2 story drop and keep on trucking.
They where so reliable that’s it’s part of the reason I think they have been slowly making them worse ever since.
So that people have to actually buy new ones.
Outside of a SINGLE battery replacement from age, my original day 1 ps3 controller is still going strong while every PS4 and 5 controller I’ve had has started to fail in one way or another in like a year ish.
$300 controllers coming soon, still with stick drift and rubber joystick tops that turn into slime over time.
If they fixed it, you wouldn’t have to buy new ones
And if it’s anything like my Dualsense, needs to be charged all the time. I basically use it as a wired controller now and barely use my PS5
