    Self-Host Weekly (11 September 2026)

Daniel Brendel released a virtual pet game that’s a cross between Minecraft and Tamagotchi

    huh?

    aah.

I don’t think this is the case here, but now I wonder whether rewriting git history dates to be more spread out and go further back before uploading an AI slop project to github is a viable way to appear more legitimate.

I can only assume it’s because the project’s new leadership can’t count

This came across as a bit harsh. The blogpost explaining the new naming strategy seemed to make sense to me at the time. Did I miss something?

This was obviously meant as a joke…
      Sheesh are some overly-sensitive.

Yes it’s a bit crass but not overly.
      Also in the newsletter

The Jellyfin team took a page from Microsoft’s playbook and skipped a major version number (v11) with the release of v12 this week (…)

It has to be funny to be a joke, and this wasn’t funny. Seemed like a cheap shot from a Plex fanboi.

Good to see Mullenweg gone, what a shitbird. And complaining he didn’t have time to have the resolution reviewed before the vote. Matt, that’s the exact sort of bullshit behaviour you would have committed if the shoe were on the other foot. So quit crying and go code or something.

Gone? On paid vacation for a short while, you mean… But perhaps it’s a sign from the board, that he should either get his shit together or he will be out for good at some point, hopefully.

Self-Host Weekly is sponsored by Coder. AI coding agents run on your laptop with your credentials, your network access, and no record of what they touched. Coder is open source and gives every agent a self-hosted workspace you define in Terraform, so your code never leaves the machines you own.

Nasty. I thought this was satire at first and had to read it back.
