I played Nine Sols recently and it had a transformative effect on my gaming experience. Its been truly eye opening to realize that my nervousness has only kept me from a good time. Or maybe I just wasn’t ready for it…
Following that trend, I started Celeste for the first time even though I never play pure platformers, and it has blown my socks off. Do I suck? You bet your ass I do. But I know it’s from a lack of detailed platforming, and developing that skill has been very fun and satisfying.

I didn’t know it was free to play, so I ended up spoiling myself on the plot before finally playing it.
Still got caught off guard.
To me it’s a case study in good presentation value and cinematic timing. I had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen, and still when it did it was deeply affecting.
Harkens back to old Shakespeare methods; where you would have the core story of the play told to you ahead of time and it was still a thrill to watch.
